I like this book the story kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happened until the very end. The characters in this book are interesting, they have back stories to them. I like the little bits you get to work out about them, that would give you an insight on how they would be as a couple.
Don't read if you don't like or believe in gay love!!!

Ah loved this book. I can't seem to get enough of these guys. The story is well told and believable and the main MC's are great and likeable as well as the extras. I also like how all the other characters from the previous books make a little appearance. A very good book. Off to read book 4

HASH(0xa0a48d08) out of 5 stars There is no touchdown with this football themed story - it is more of a fumble. 27 April 2014

Brendan is gay but so very deep in the closet his address could be in Narnia. Randy is out and proud and looking for someone to share his life. Brendan is the new coach of the High School football team and Randy is the 'reluctant' paramedic volunteer - they meet over an abused gay student and while there is an attraction Brendan won't go there. They have a limited number of meetings before the walls start to crack for Brendan, he makes the decision to walk away and Randy reluctantly accepts that. Except then they are back on and while the walls were there they can't have been very thick because they begin to form a relationship. Brendan sees what he has been missing out on and wants a life with his partner whom he has become possessive of.
I have read the other books in the series and I have to admit this is the weakest in the series. I much preferred the cop and the fireman in Fireman's Carry, and the fireman and the farmer in Piggyback. This can be read as a stand-alone but is more enjoyable if you can place the other characters from the earlier books. It is an ok read but there was no touchdown.

Why write a book about football when you don't know anything about the topic? Why put in interesting issues regarding gay high school football players if you just drop the topic without any resolution or growth by the players? Why expect readers to believe that someone would be in love with a person after their second meeting.....obessed, okay...fixated, I can buy that......in love (and they aren't paranormal mates) no way.

Brenden is apparently a closeted former NFL football player who red-shirted his freshmen year and blew out his knee his sophomore year so he retired and became a teacher. I know that storyline makes zero sense because I have at least some basic knowledge about football. The author clearly did not so we get this amazing nonsense since he retired from footbll during college then got drafted and played in the NFL for at least 6 years.

These types of glaring mistakes just make the other short comings stand out more. Get a friend to read your book before you publish. Make sure the friend is honest and has at least general understanding about well known topics.

ANNOYED.

I must say that I have really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this series. First Vince and Carl, then Trace and Laramie. Now it's Randy the paramedic friend's turn. What I have really enjoyed about this series is that throughout all the books so far, we have seen each character in all the books. We get to catch up with Vince and Carl and the kids, and see that Trace and Laramie are still going strong. I enjoy the little details like that. It makes you want to read the next book just to get a glimpse of characters we've already come to love. And in this episode, Randy the medic volunteers at the schools first football game, where he meets and is instantly taken with the brand new gorgeous head coach, who happens to be a severe closet case.
From there the book jumps through all the angst rather quickly. One of the reasons I rated this book with just three stars is because this guy who has a panic attack in the first chapter because he thinks he looks at Randy to long, literally changes his views, and is in love in about 3 to 4 days. I know these are short stories, but come on!! Ms. Richards can do better with her storyline than this. It feels rushed and hurried. Usually, she can make the timelines work, I have read many of her stories, and the plot doesn't suffer because of the short length, but to me, this one did. It made it unrealistic, and to rushed to actually believe. Now don't get me wrong, I am still glad I read it. I am happy Randy got his story told, however, I just wish he could have gotten the same kind of outline that some of her other books have had.
Having said all that, do I recommend this book? If you have read the others in the series, YES. If this is your first book by Ms. Richards, NO! I will be finishing out this series, because I am extremely excited to see how the very STRAIGHT Ryan's story pans out! Do yourself a favor and start with 'Fireman's Carry' book 1 in this series. It will BLOW you AWAY!!!
HASH(0xa08a8354) out of 5 stars Terrific "closet opening" M/M romance !! 28 Jan. 2016

Wonderful story about coming out of the closet and taking what you really want from life !! Big, strong, Coach Brendan, isn't out, but sure wishes he was when he meets Paramedic Randy at the first aid tent during a football game. The smaller, dirty blonde, handsome, white man is stunning, and hits all of Brendan's buttons. There is bullying within the football team, Brendan's family not being aware of his being gay, and Randy dealing with his sister's crappy parenting, so we have a lot to take in. If this story was longer all of the issues may have been dealt with, but that is the only problem I had. (SPOILER: We didn't get to see how the bullying was handled at the school, beyond the one game suspension, or what the reaction was about the kid's coach being gay).
Brendan's first kiss with a man was up against the wall with Randy, and rocked both their worlds. Yummy hot sexiness with these two. It's all new to Brendan, who never had the opportunity to experience a relationship with a man. Now, with Randy, he wants it all. You'll have to see what happens here, I won't tell !
I liked this tale of "coming out", the acceptance, forming family, finding friendships and realizing true love,
Highly recommend. ENJOY !!!

This was really enjoyable and I loved the tension of Toby's custody case. My only complaint is the author never addressed the coach's coming out to the team. I thought this was odd considering how much she pointed out that some of his players were homophobic. There was nothing mentioned about his student's reactions or anything. Not even an epilogue to explain this missing piece away.

Otherwise it was an excellent sweet story.
