I bought this for my 8 year old son for long car journeys. He likes to listen to story CDs as it keeps him amused and stops him asking if we are nearly there yet!

I chose this CD for him as he is very interested in history and enjoys historically based stories. This CD was a great success and he listened to it several times on its first long journey. My son seemed to find it amusing in places and we didn't get a peep out of him for the entire journey.

The CD is approximately 50 minutes long so it is an adaptation of the original Alexander Dumas book but that is fine for keeping the attention of a child. I have a 5 year old as well but I would have said that it was a little beyond him at the moment. Probably the CD is best for children aged about 7 upwards.

It isn't read by a big 'name' as many of these story CDs are but this is reflected in the reasonable price and it certainly doesn't spoil the enjoyment for my son.

This CD was very poor. The two stars above are for the story which is a classic and very good. The production of the audio recording was astoundingly bad. There had clearly been little rehearsal and it was abundantly clear that the actors were reading their lines. There was the most appalling French accent on most of the actors, there were comical sound effects and too few actors playing too many parts. My son, who is 9 listens to alot of CD's in the car as he has a long journey to school. He often wants to hear them over and over. When this CD had finished he looked at me and said 'Is that it?' Nuff said. Don't buy.

Rotten production 7 Mar 2010
Format:Audio CD
The production of this recital is astonishingly bad. The actors must have been passers-by dragged off the street outside the studio immediately prior to the recording, and it's not surprising that they didn't have their names put on the cover.
Despite all this, my 6-year old loves the story - but is the only one of my three children who regularly requests it in the car. It's unbearable for an adult to have to listen to, save to marvel at the way that any actor let his false laughter and ridiculous accents be published.
