4.0 out of 5 stars Another Nora Roberts winner with an Irish flavour 28 April 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Nora Roberts has drawn again on her love of Ireland to depict this novel of intrigue, romance and humour. It tells the story of the Three Fates - small statues - and one family's determination to re-unite the set against the odds. Along the way, each one of the clan meets their match and towards the end are all united as a group against the protaganist who also wants the Fates. This character was a little weak in comparison to previous villains in Ms.Roberts books but this did'nt upset my overall enjoyment.
There were great moments of humour and I loved the characters of Tia and how she overcomes her hypochondria, loud, brash Cleo and gentle, strong Rebecca. The three guys were great too!!
Although the characters were not as finely drawn as in previous novels - the downside to having three couples/relationships in one book - I'd still recommend it as a great Spring read.

3.0 out of 5 stars After so many great books, a disappointment... 17 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I'm a **huge** NR fan but this is the first book which didn't hook me and keep me hooked. First disappointment, this isn't set, at any point, on Three Sisters Island. But that given, I didn't find the three main characters, Gideon, Malachi & Rebecca Sullivan likeable - and for me one of Nora's strengths is her ability to create characters I care about long after the books are finished. The Sullivans to me were too stereotypically Irish, and their characters flat and not developed. Rebecca is especially irritating. If you're starting out on Nora, try the Chesapeake or Three Sisters Islands trilogies instead, for wonderful stories, great characters and books which fold you in and don't let go until the last page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fact in Fiction 2 July 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I loved this book. Nora did her research, the way the story starts during a first world war tradegy, the sinking of the lusitania.I love the way she adds facts to her fiction which I feel draws the reader even deeper into her stories, I also feel Nora did well to include so many charactors into this story without losing any of there depth, it all comes together well. This story spins a great web which you don't want to escape from. Please them coming Nora...

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely brilliant 3 Nov 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This was brilliant in every way. The characters were marvellous and although Rebecca, the daughter of the Sullivan clan has a smaller part than her brothers it is still great. The characters are created brilliantly and the setting - of which are numerous - are fantastically created. the pace of the book and the suspense, entwined with the history are a superb formula. Great for any Nora fan and a definate must for anyone who hasn't tried any of her stuff yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable 18 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This was the first novel by Nora Roberts that I have read and it has convinced me to try some more. The book is a mixture of fact and fantasy and is part thriller and part romance (don't panic guys, not too heavy on the 'lurve themes'.) In a neat combination of circumstance and detective work three Irish siblings try to track down the existence of three antique statues. Do they actually exist or are they just myths handed down the generations?
There isn't a great deal of mystery here - but the story unravels in a satifying way. The ending was a bit trite but not something that should put you off giving this book the once over!

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece. 20 Aug 2002
Format:Paperback
A true masterpiece. Nora has written many, many books. Some of them are not really great but many are. And this is one of the greatest. The story is not so difficult as you might think. Easy to follow with enough action to keep you turning the pages. It is expensive but well worth the money. You will read this one again and again. A very good read !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down 16 July 2002
By C. Dew
Format:Paperback
I love how NR can make the characters so real. Here you have an Irish family following the trail to the three fates. They end up meeting their mates three very individual people all with something special to add to the story.
There is so much happening you won't have time to get bored.
Great book to read when you are relaxing by the pool.
