Set in the utterly corrupt city-state of Turai our man Thraxas, the ex sorceror, ex-soldier, ex-palace guard and oft drunk investigator eeks out a life amoung the drug-addled, criminal and poor until Princess-Akai turns up with a seemingly easy job to perform. Which ends up with a high-ranking foreign diplomat dead and Thraxas in prison accused of his murder.
It's a joy to read from start to finish. Filled with laughs and action as Thraxas attempts to prove his innocence while taking on some other cases, taking him into the higher echelons of Turaian society. The characters are well written, entertaining and believable, the plot while fixed in the fantastical is always fun and not too difficult to follow. There are also numerous and humorous real-world parodies that deal with drugs, government and prejudice that provide some intellectual meat aswell.
I'd certainly recommend this to anyone, there's something here everyone can love.
