Format: Paperback
This is without question possibly the only book out there that teaches thrash metal guitar in a very well structured and written methodology. Quite frankly if thrash metal is where you want to go with the guitar, you probably won't need any other book.
This book was originally written at the time when bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Sepultura, Sodom, Kreator and Destruction were absolutely on fire having hammered out of the underground into the mainstream and it is reflected in the book.
The book starts off with metal guitar exercises including single notes, sliding chord riffs and syncopated rhythms. However, the difficulty shifts rather quickly after that as does the speed and technical nature of the exercises and this will only surmount as you progress throughout the book, especially when you reach alternate picking and its applications.
No stone is unturned in this book given that after the first set of exercises, you will be taught the theory behind thrash metal in the form of the relevant scales, chord progressions, melodic principles and even an extended section on harmony. But theory does not end there, you then enter an intense study of rhythm and time signatures.
In total, there are six songs with full backing band, the first three appear at the end of each chapter but the last three in the final chapter are incredibly fast and technical twin guitar thrash metal epics and include lead guitar solos. Concerning the skill level I would state that this book is better suited for intermediate to advanced players given that this book quickly becomes very technical as you progress. However this book is an essential purchase for guitar wielding thrash metal fans and even metal guitarists who are into bands like Judas Priest, Iced Earth and Running Wild who are renowned for demonstrating merciless riff assaults in heavy metal. Let The Mosh Begin!!

I just got this book, been playing, self taught for years, and this is teaching me stuff I never did before. The excercise's are great and challenging to get the speed, but it's all about practice.

Format: Paperback
This book is great. It covers all the essential information needed to play thrash guitar. I find myself just listening to the songs in here, its that good. Honestly theres nothing out there that I've seen thats been this accurate to the genre. It covers odd tempos, atonal riffs, odd harmonies, etc. Buy this if you wanna thrash!

A rare gem! 7 Sept. 2013

I have several of Troy Stetina's books and like the others, Thrash Guitar Method does not disappoint. Troy provides an in depth study of thrash metal and includes full songs that you can learn to play note for note. I do wish that some of the examples could have been played at half speed to make them easier to learn, since it does get pretty fast sometimes. Overall, this is a great book and I've learned a lot from it.
No other methodology out there for learning and mastering thrash metal guitar 24 May 2014

Chromatic Ear Twisting: AKA: THRASH! 30 Dec. 2009
By Mfragin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I love this book. In fact, I remember first buying this when it was first published, and it was the ONLY book on thrash guitar that you could find back then. Stetina is a nerdy-but-cool scholar of metal music--the kind of guy you found in a dorm room that could impress everyone as he played all the great riffs off the top of his head.

This is a great book that will teach you REAL thrash metal theory and techniques.

I have several of his books. You can buy just one of his and stay with it as there is always a lot of information. I tend to jump from book to book and get nuggets from each. I have a thick head when it comes to music theory but he seems to be getting some of it into my brain. His songs are easier to play along than some that use delay if you are following the tablature. Detailed in that he shows you the up and downs of striking the notes.
