"I Thought About You (A Tribute to Chet Baker)" captures the famed jazz master pianist & vocalist Eliane Elias and friends, which includes drummer Victor Lewis and her husband, bassist Marc Johnson, both of whom actually played with the legendary 'cool jazz' trumpeter/singer. The group also has Steve Cardenas on electric guitar, Oscar Castro-Neves on acoustic guitar, Rafael Barata on drums, Marivaldo Do Santos on percussion, and Randy Brecker on trumpet/flugelhorn on 3 tracks, all in various combinations. Elias plays some of the most memorable songs associated with jazz Hall of Famer Baker's storied career. The 'best of the best' begins with a stirring performance of "I Thought About You" with Eliane's smoky 'voice as an instrument' phrasing and sizzling piano solo. "This Can't Be Love" swings hard with interesting rhythmic breaks. Breacker's solo on "That Old Feeling" is impressive. And perhaps best of all, the tempo-shifting "There Will Never Be Another You" featuring hot solos from Eliane and Randy Brecker and, at the recording's end, Eliane alone with her mellow voice and reflective piano on a great version of "I Get Along Without You Very Well". This is a great performance by Eliane Elias and friends which is a fitting tribute to Chet Baker that is sincere appreciation, not imitation: beautifully recorded and produced by Eliane, Marc, and Steve Rodby. Highly Recommended. Five IMPRESSIVE Stars! (14 tracks; Time: 54 minutes; 47 seconds)

I have always loved Elaine Elias, mostly for her superb piano playing and also because of her choice of songs. I sing with a jazz band myself and she is an inspiration to me. As she is Brazillian I also love her Brazillian songs, sung in Portugese of course. I have been to Rio and love everything about the music. I also love Chet Baker and so this recent CD of hers played in the West Coast style that he was so famous for is my favourite jazz sound. I have recommended it to all my jazz friends. Thank you.

This album is a follow up to Light My Fire, but while maintaining many of the same personnel as that album, it sounds quite different.

"Light my Fire" was very much Brazilian-influenced in terms of rhythms and no surprise there, as Eliane Elias comes from that country. But she also has the Jazz pedigree that comes from playing in some of the top Jazz groups like "Steps Ahead" and with some of America's best Jazz musicians - like Randy Brecker who guests here, on trumpet.

This is billed as a tribute to Chet Baker, but to my ears doesn't really sound like most of the music with which he was involved. Instead, it seems to be an album of Jazz standards sung by Elias - in a recent interview with Jazzwise magasine, she explains how it feels that she can sing these standards now - whereas previously she wasn't ready to tackle material from the "Great American Songbook".

There was of course, a part of Chet Baker's career, where he sang these songs - but he also did so many other things - like the piano-less quartet with Gerry Mulligan and the whole West Coast Cool school of Jazz.

Chet Baker was a really good Jazz trumpet player who could also sing - and maybe you can say something similar about Eliane Elias. She is a very good Jazz pianist who can also sing. In both cases the singing and the image is more "marketable" than the Jazz expertise.

But here the playing is probably the better suit - all the musicians provide excellent and subtle support - especially husband Marc Johnson on Double Bass. While Elias's singing is perfectly good, it's the solos which light up the tunes and which give the interest to this album.

A high quality set of Jazz standards that is very different from previous albums, but still brings all the skills of the players to the fore.

Very pleasant interpretations and backing group. A very nice version of 'Girl talk', but almost all of the songs are great but have been equally well done by several others. It was a good addition to my collection of Brazilian 'divas'.

I saw this CD in a music shop and was attracted to Chet Baker's name on the cover. To be honest I'd never heard Eliane Elias before. This is gentle jazz with some excellent solos from Randy Brecker. Eliane is the pianist and vocalist and like Chet she doesn't have a large range - but that isn't a problem. Good selection of songs. Makes good background music and I imagine it's going to migrate to my car where I can listen to Elias and the guys while I buzz along the motorways.

Can highly recommend this artist. Great CD which was bought as a birthday present - had heard several songs on Jazz FM and thought it would be a great addition to our music collection!

Anything by Eliane Elias is always worth buying to add to your collection. Great singing, great piano playing and the backing artists are the best. The more you play this CD, the more hooked you get on it.
