For my money no one writes children's books like Peter Bently. The stories are always well constructed, the illustrations entertaining and the rhyming text sitting nicely on the point of being amusing for adults yet capable of making kids thinking they are reading something slightly naughty. His funniest book is "The great dog bottom swap" but this second volume to feature slightly deranged sheep is a great read. This story concerns a herd of sheep stealing a bi-plane and setting off on a global adventure complete with amusing mishaps and explorations of local cuisine. Granted, it is very stupid but the sheer silliness of the story and clever puns marks Peter Bently's efforts several notches above the competition.

I bought this for my nephew and whilst some children's books loose their appeal to adults after a number of readings, Peter Bently's efforts continue to amuse. Recommended for adults as well as kids.

"Wa-hay! ... What a thrill! / This beats eating grass on our boring old hill!" This is indeed a magnificent book; Bently's rhythm and rhyme and Roberts' wonderful illustrations make this quirky and memorable. It's full of verve and humour. Definitely one to pick off the shelf time and time again. Ewe'll love it.

This was bought for our 4 year old as a birthday present. He hasn't yet seen it but the illustrations are lovely and the story has a great sense of fun. The idea that the sheep go on adventures before returning home is very fitting as he is coming up to school age. I think it will go down very well.
