Format:Hardcover
This book is a great introduction to Tai Chi, giving a good grounding (:-) on the background, history, styles and practises of tai chi. Paul obviously writes from the viewpoint of his own background in Old Yang style Taiji, but most of the material is applicable no matter which style you're looking at.

This book has a very 'soft' feel to it, with plenty of colour and clear sensible advice, and so would be a great introduction for someone who thinks they might be interested, but doesn't want a weighty tome full of posture photos or reams of Taoist mutterings of the sages.

In short, highly recommended.

This is a fantastic little book to introduce beginners to the foundation concepts, principles and ideas. It explains what a practitioner should experience as their learning progresses and does not confuse the issues with lots of style specific references and mystical mumbo-jumbo. Mr. Brecher is an experienced practitioner but this book is meant to be an introduction not a thesis on Taiji - I feel he achieves this goal on every count.

I have taught Taiji for a number of years for the local council Adult Education service and I would recommend this as a first read to my students every time.

Sensible price, good basic read.

I got it wrong 1 Jun 2004
Format:Paperback
Since reviewing this book originally I have viewed many of Mr Montaigue's videos. and now it all falls into place. I can't believe how wrong I got the original review.
On reflection it is an excellent introduction to the art of tai chi as taught by Mr Montaigue.
Sorry
