Product Description

DI Mike Yorke is coming home. After three months in London, he's looking forward to being back in the north east - but he's barely off the train before he's deep into the most bizarre case of his career. A viciously flogged corpse. Children disappearing, the length of the A1. Horrific new street drugs. And buried somewhere is a deadly secret that will lead him down paths so dangerous, he will question the very fabric of society. In the first in a stunning new series set on Holy Island, an explosive secret going back to the dawn of time is unearthed by a young woman who, fearing for her life, goes on the run in the wilds of Northumbria. The fate of the world is in the hands of DI Mike Yorke, an abused clairvoyant street kid called 'Smiler', and Mike's elderly Aunt May. Everyone from the lowlifes of the London streets to the monks near Holy Island become involved in a race against time to save humanity. From the celebrated author of the Seahills Estate novels comes a BRAND NEW Series that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.

Masterpiece 28 Oct 2010
Format:Hardcover
I'm from Norway and had never heard about this author before. I met her at a book signing in a WHSmith bookstore at the Metro Centre. Unfortunately non of her books is published in Norway.
Anyway, I bought a copy of "Thorn in my side", Sheila signed it for me. I went outside the store and sat down on a bench waiting for my wife and two daugters. I opened the book to see what it was all about, and before I knew it, I was caught in the story and it would not let go. This book is a fast-paced, gripping story about some ordinary people getting caught in a conspiracy way beond their imagination. Higly recommended!

Tula & Tony 7 Dec 2010
By P. Tew
Format:Hardcover
The first of a brand new series of crime thriller. The characters may also be brand new but like Sheila's previous novels they are so lifelike you soon feel you are standing next to them. She has a superior talent for characterisation.
Set pedominantly on the atmospheric Holy Island just off the Northumberland coastline, the location provides the perfect backdrop for this gripping narrative. The author hooks you in from the start with her typical ability to create intrigue. Holy Island is an evocative place to those who have visited. To those who haven't yet seen it, after reading this book you are sure to want to travel there (warning - check the tide tables first!).
The success of this outstanding book by the North East's most eminent crime fiction writer is underpinned by her meticulous research.
We don't want to give the plot away but anyone who reads this book will see the obvious visual potential for film or T.V.dramatisation.

Producers and film companies are you listening !

Thorn in my side 23 Oct 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book is a tightly written thriller which unlike her seahills estate books is set (mostly) on Holy Island. Her characterisation is second to none and along with her excellent storylines they bring the North East underworld to life. I began this book with a keen anticipation having read her last five books and I was not disapointed. I found I was unable to put it down until I had turned the very last page, it even accompanied me to the loo. After this I may not visit Holy Island for some time. Thank you Ms Quigley for another masterpiece, Martina Cole eat your heart out.
