Reviews

Festive drama inspired by the works of the acclaimed painter, Thomas Kinkade. The films tells the story of how a small community and an ageing man named Glen (Peter O'Toole) help a family to save the only home they've ever known. Along the way, they teach a young man, Thomas Kinkade (Jared Padelecki), the meaning of love, friendship, and what it means to be an artist.

As a collector of Thomas Kinkade Santa figurines, I was so happy to see his actual life story on a DVD. The story is quite amazing, like a fairytale. The actors' performances are exceptional and the plot keeps you on the chair waiting to see what's next.

Mr. Peter O' Toole made me cry once more.

It is really, not only a Xmas movie but an all seasons movie, full of life messages for everyone.

Excellent work!!

Argyro Christodoulou.

This is a well acted, unusual storyline with a mother trying to give her broken family a good Christmas without them being aware of her own quite serious problems. It is not really a cheery film, more realistic and heartwarming.

Good for adults or older children, my 10 year old was able to understand it, but my 6 year old kept asking me what it all meant!

This is a movie which is sure to divide people. It is based on the early life of Thomas Kinkade, "the painter of light". It is a story of the sources of his inspiration:his mentor, and how the difficulties faced by his mother provided a motivation through which he began to find himself. Its weakness is that it isn't sure of its own purpose. It is certainly not a biography or a christmas movie in the ordinary sense and its comedic moments often miss the mark.In many ways it is like a Kinkade picture: a little sugary and sentimental yet with a warmth and humanity that can touch our hopes for a world where we all have a place and where everything comes out alright in the end However,it it isn't grounded in the reality of the world as we know it. The script is very uneven, occasionally very hammy, yet produces some fine moments. Peter o' Toole's performance as Tom's mentor, rapidly approaching dotage and a loss of his powers is a fine one and justifies a viewing.I also enjoyed the background music. Not for anyone who shrinks from sentimentality, but overall I'm glad I watched it.

I really liked this film. It was a feel-good film without being too cheesey. The plot is fairly predictable but that's not really a problem. This is a film I could time again. I wouldn't necessarily find anything new but I would be entertained.

What makes the movie is the cast. Sure, it's got Peter O'Toole but the best actor for me was Geoffrey Lewis playing the part of a man grieving for his dead son. Totally believable. In fact, the whole cast were great.

This is a film you can watch at any time of the year - don't wait until Christmas to buy this!

I'm a bit of a sucker for a Christmas title and a pretty cover, and Peter O'Toole in the cast usually (but not always) means the film should be OK.

Well, on this occasion the film was 'OK'. It's based on a true story and the cast do well but without meaning to be judgemental it's a very American story and suffers from too much sugary sweetness.

Would I recommend this film? If you like undemanding TV movies where you can snuggle down with a glass of wine and a mince pie, and not have to think too much about the story, then I think you'll like this one.

Just don't expect anything spectacular or for this film to change your life.

This is truly an amazing christmas story. It bring hope, love, joy, community sprit, family heartbreak, an amazing story.
I first bought this movie as I was interested to see how Jared Padalecki acted outside of horror. I already knew he had the ability to do good drama but, wanted to see him in a different light. I was'nt disappointed. For someone so young to play the emotional scenes alongside Peter O'Toole and make it really convincing was amazing. He really is a very talented actor.
Once I had watched it I wanted to watch it again. Everytime I watch I always get something new out of it. It seems fresh each time in so many different ways.
It is based on a true story of a young artist struggling to find a place in the art world where he can make a difference. He has left his home town for the big city in order to do this. As yet nothing has happened. It is on a return journey home with his brother that he find out who he really is and how he can make a difference in not only his life but those around him. He is able through his painting to bring the whole community together and to help them all realise they each have an important part to play in each others lives, even the dogs have a part to play.
Since watching this movie I have looked up the work of Thomas Kinkade and it is truly magical. I would recomend anyone to do this, he brings a whole new meaning to the word LIGHT. I have never seen painting like his before.

This is a great Christmas movie for the whole family but especially mum and grandma. For those who've forgotten what Christmas is about it will encourage you to think about Christmas and life priorities.
