Product Description

More adventures with Thomas and his friends. In 'Hero of The Rails', while taking part in a race with bragging Spencer, Thomas finds Hiro, an abandoned engine who seems to be far from home. In an effort to stop Hiro going to the scrapyard, Thomas enlists his friends to help repair him. In 'The Great Discovery' Thomas's discovery of the long-lost town of Great Waterton leads the Fat Controller to order its restoration. But when a new engine called Stanley arrives to help with the work, Thomas's jealousy causes him to play a trick on Stanley, that leads to him becoming lost and the centre of a search and rescue mission by the locals. Finally, in 'Calling All Engines' Thomas is helping to build an airport, but all the steam engines and all the diesel engines aren't getting on. When one of Thomas' practical jokes goes wrong, the whole Island of Sodor is in trouble, but then Thomas has a dream that tells him how all the different types of engines can work together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sure Winner! 24 Nov 2010
By Bookbug
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I bought this boxed set for my 2yr old son - he absolutely loves them.
Thanks to his absolute delight with these and my not being 'fast enough' to atttend to his wishes he has learned to operate the DVD player and TV all on his own inserting and playing and changing these films at lib. Very good for his motor skills and technical understanding lol!
The all-time favourite is definitely 'The Great Discovery' with the song 'Where is Thomas' as the sing-a-long of choice! It has a 'Roll Call Rap' at the end and he dances to this with great glee and gay abandon!
'Calling all Engines' is a wonderful story emphasizing unity and harmony despite differences and mutual respect instead of 'tit for tat' - It is interspersed with little 'activities' which are nice but intitially made my son turn the story off and change the DVD until he understood that the story continues after the 'activity' is over. It also took him some time to come to terms with the somewhat angry features of the diesel engines. So, though now very much enjoyed, this film was a slow starter.
'Hero of the Rails' is a computer animated film and so deviates somewhat from the visual norm of the other films. The story is absolutely delightful( even for me as an adult). The introduction of the Japanese Engine Hiro and the Engine Victor (not sure if he is supposed to be Hispanic or Mediterranean - he sounded Maltese to me) was a most delightful addition to the cast.

2.0 out of 5 stars The old type of Thomas films 24 Jun 2012
By mom
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I brought this so that my toddler had a good selection to choose from instead of just watching the same Thomas films over and over. Hes a big fan of Day of the diesels and Thomas and the magic railroad. We were disapointed to find that two of the films were the old fashioned type where there is just a man telling a story while the characters moved round the track. My toddler soon got bored and left. If your toddler dosent like the original Thomas format i recommend giving this box set a miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3 Thomas Films In 1 Movie Pack. 24 May 2014
Format:DVD
Thomas & Friends – Calling All Engines (Classic old style Thomas)
Calling All Engines is a made-for-video movie, a spinoff of the TV series, Thomas and Friends and a follow up to Thomas and the Magic Railroad. It's not a direct sequel, but features some of the same characters. The film was co-produced by HIT Entertainment and Cosgrove Hall Films and was released on the 3 October 2005.

The main film is 1 hour long, plus 3 “Learn With Thomas”, 3 deleted scenes & a trailer for Days Out With Thomas. The film also includes full subtitles.

---

Thomas & Friends - The Great Discovery (Classic old style Thomas)
The Great Discovery is a 2008 feature-length movie and film spin-off of the TV series, Thomas and Friends. The film is a follow up, not a direct sequel (though it does feature some of the same characters) to Thomas and the Magic Railroad and a sequel to Calling All Engines! The DVD was released on the 6 October 2008. Pierce Brosnan was featured as a guest narrator.

I didn't think I would enjoy The Great Discovery due to it having Pierce Brosnan as the narrator. But it wasn't THAT bad. It was by no means perfect as we are all used to the normal guy, but after 15mins you get used to it. Oh and as for the special Thomas - You're the Leader song at the end of the film, well it's been stuck in my head all day lol. Loved this DVD.

The main film is 1 hour long, plus Introducing Stanley, Select A Song, and Follow The Whistle as extras. The film also includes full subtitles.

---
Thomas & Friends – Hero of the Rails (New CGI Thomas)
Hero of the Rails is a 2009 CGI feature-length special and film spin-off of the TV series Thomas & Friends.
