5.0 out of 5 stars Classic entertainment for young and old 24 Nov 2004
By A Customer
Format:DVD
This really is the ultimate DVD. Forget the weaker newer series's of Thomas - this features the first 5 classic seasons that really reflect the true strength of the programme.
All of the 5 series are fantastic entertainment and although it is essentially a kids show, adults and teens can't help but be impressed too! Series 2 and 5 are the best here, but all of the episodes are worth having. In chronological order, it is a neat and complete collection, excellent value for 130 episodes!
Series 1 1984 (Best episode - The Flying Kipper)
Series 2 1986 (Best episode - Old Iron)
Series 3 1991 (Best episode - Heroes)
Series 4 1994 (Best episode - Paint Pots and Queens)
Series 5 1998 (Best episode - Cranky Bugs)
There are so many classic moments that you will remember from your childhood such as Henry being locked up in the tunnel, Percy pretending to be a ghost and the chilling trilogy where the evil Diesel tries to take over the railway!
A must have a fans young and old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Class Fun! 1 Feb 2005
By C Fox VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
A few words: 2-year-old boy.
Yes, if you have a 2-year-old who is nuts about Thomas, then this collection is an absolute must as a parent-sanity-saver! With 130 episodes, there is no getting tired of seeing the same de-railments over and over and over and over...
Plus, I like to see things "complete" so I particularly enjoyed watching the "entire" stories in each series, rather than the isolated episodes that usually appear in Thomas collections.
Both me and my 2-year-old are now happy as can be!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent collection of Thomas the Tank Engine 27 Nov 2005
By A Customer
Format:DVD
This is a great collection to own for little ones who are avid train lovers. The stories are well and clearly narrated by Ringo Starr. The stories are both entertaining as well as educational especially if you just happen to live by a railway station as we do. And the graphics expressing the emotions of the various trains are well done. The only thing I didn't like was the rather repetitive theme song at the start and end of each episode, however my boy was quite oblivious to it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rare stories, but very little else... 27 July 2005
By A Customer
Format:DVD
One of the best things about this release is that it is any fan's only chance to own two of the 'missing stories' - 'What's the Matter With Henry' and 'Rheneas and the Roller Coaster'. Those who are seeking new stories will be disappointed, as this release compilates selected titles from previous releases, including 'The Fogman and Other Stories', 'The Chocolate Crunch and Other Stories', 'Brave Little Engines' and 'Happy Little Helpers'. For those aware of the season order for 'Thomas and Friends', the release contains largely stories from the 6th Season with only a handful from Series 7. This is a shame, as there are two other stories yet to be released including 'Jack Frost' (S. 6) and 'Not So Hasty Puddings'.
One other significent feature of the release (aside from the activity package included inside) is a preview for the upcoming 'direct-to-video' release entitled 'Calling All Engines'. Fans worldwide are waiting in angst and excitement, for 'CAE' will be Thomas' second feature length presentation. However, this release will be of a similar standard to a full-length, 55 minute television episode. The plot is simply - The engines of the Island of Sodor must work and collaborate in order to complete the nessessary building work required for a new national airport. But conflict arrises between the steam engines and diesels, and work slowly grinds to a hault over 'cultral' differences. Thomas has even more to worry about when a storm strikes the island and an incomplete bridge leaves the line exposed to danger. The UK release (narrated by legend Micheal Angelis) will be arriving in October. A short preview for the release can be found on the Bumper Party Collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Gulity Pleasure! 21 Jan 2008
Format:DVD
Ok... so I'm 18 years old, and I grew up with Thomas The Tank Engine on the television.

I still love Thomas now (not the new episodes, they are rubbish, why they brought it loads of new characters and ruined the show... I will never know!)

I had some friends over a few nights back, and what was kind of embarassing was that they found my Thomas and Friends dvd collection while we were looking for a movie to watch! (I have all of the seasons that have been released, 7 so far!)

They have teased me about it non-stop since the party, but I don't really care... Thomas is and will always be my favourite television programme. It is just amazing.. I love Ringo Starr's narration in the earlier seasons and I love the way they animated the expressions on the engines' faces :)

I think I love it now for the same reasons I loved it when I was a little kid... it was the best show on television, all the others kind of... well, they weren't good, let's put it that way. It's the same now.

Buy this dvd collection, if you loved Thomas when you were young it will take you back to those days, and if you love Thomas now.... well, JUST BUY IT!
