My four-year-old son loves having this read to him at bedtime. Nice illustrations (not quite so keen on those towards the end of the book).
This edition is in US English, so trucks are called "freight cars", points are called "switches" etc.

This book contains all of the wonderful stories that can be collected in the smaller books. The text is all there, with some additional details on the author and illustrators. It does however lack all the lovely paintings/illustrations in the smaller library. Nevertheless having the collection in one book at a greatly reduced overall cost makes a lot of sense.
As the father who often reads to a son that initially began his interest with Thomas at four years old, and is now seven, we enjoy these stories more than the newer updated books with their rather anodyne illustrations and less articulate stories.
I highly recommend this book for parents whose child really enjoys the Thomas stories and are developing their own reading.

I bought this book last year for my son, then 4 years old. It's a version published by Egmont Books in 2002, which we picked up new in a bookshop sale at a fraction of the cover price. Nevertheless, this beautifully designed, bound and printed book is worth every penny of that cover price.
A truly charming book with series of original stories by Rev W. Audry, dating from 1945 all the way upto 1960, complete with original illustrations by C. Reginald Dalby and John T. Kenney. It is our favourite bedtime book. We never tire of reading it and our son never tires of listening to the stories and looking at the pictures.
We can thoroughly recommend it for children of all ages, from 4 to 94.
