Product Description

Product Description

This We Know is a book about knowing, what it means to know and what we don't know. It is an exploration too of what sort of world we could all know and how we might get there.

This We Know is also proof that a book does not have to be a big book to be a BIG BOOK.

It was written and published in just two weeks which is proof too that writing a book does not have to take a long time either. It was written to be read in one sitting, or on a single commute. Its message may stay with you a while longer.

The book is aimed at readers aged from 9 to 120 years old. One twelve year old boy even described the book as "mind bobbling". This says it all. Be prepared to have your mind 'bobbled'.

The Postscript will both blow and open your mind. You will want to live on the planet it describes. This is handy as you are already on it - it's called Spaceship Earth.

This book is a purposely short exploration into what we know, what we don't know and how we can open up the floodgates to acquiring even more knowledge.

We don't give our knowledge a second thought yet some of us would bet considerable amounts of money on what we know. We are proud of our retention of facts. Pub quizzes and TV quiz shows thrive on this seemingly basic desire.

We would swear on a bible that the Sun will set and rise each day. In fact, the Sun stays relatively static as the Earth rotates on its axis giving the illusion of sunset and sunrise.

We know, for a fact, that we know more things than our predecessors. By inference, our descendants will know more than us yet again. In a hundred years time, they may even smile lovingly at our innocence and naivety.

Knowing there is an infinity of things yet to know is one of the key tenets of our knowledge.

Without throwing the baby out with the bathwater, humanity can evolve from its current state into a very bright future indeed.

This We Know.

More About the Author

Tom is an ex-BBC television engineer turned author.

In his mid-40s, he wrote a book by accident and, before he knew it, became and author's mentor specialising in clearing writer's blocks and teaching writers how to tap into unlimited creativity.

His writing is aimed at exploring what makes us creative (and what stops it). As a result, his area of research has taken him down the route of researching the esoteric and other worldly as well as cutting edge scientific thinking and research.

His aim is to take the esoteric (the occult, obscure and hidden), to demystify it and make it exoteric (known and understood). He is an engaging speaker and works both 1-2-1 with authors and in group workshop.

Tom comes with a big caveat - people who read his books find all sorts of magic starting to emerge in their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars This we know or thought that we knew... 30 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a little book about big things. Many of us go through life never reflecting on why we are here and why we do what we do. Many people never reflect on our importance as humans and fellow humans on this earth. Are we important, do we make a difference, and can we make a difference. This book is a beautiful journey of what we know and what we don't know and where we are and where we can aim to go. It gives the reader a purpose and a meaning to our lives without being prescriptive or judgemental. You, as the reader decides, but it offers you a moment to think, to reflect and to appreciate where we are now! And it is fun and quite cheeky. I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a superb little book 13 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a fascinating little book which takes readers on a wonderful journey. Each chapter is short and to the point. The author first presents us with what we know, then begs the question 'what don't we know?' and finally presents a fictional future which appears both plausable and wonderful! At this point, i was left with a tear in my eye at the thought that i may not live long enough to see some of these amazing advancements. I now have several questions in my mind: What do I know? What do i believe? What don't I know? I have realised that the more i don't know, the more exciting it makes my current reality. Anything is possible. Thank you Tom. My Brain is buzzing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally Thought Provoking Book 2 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a wonderful little book coming straight out of the left field. Written with panache and a self deprecating air - I could not put this book down and will certainly take the time to read it again much more thoroughly. There are so many incredible nuggets of wisdom and knowledge. One of the best books of philosophy I have read in a long time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Makes you question things but nothing profound 27 Sep 2013
By G. Kind
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author says this book was written in 2 weeks and sadly it shows. Its not a bad book and it does make you question our existence. But I felt I took nothing away that made me really think about things and claims such as its impression 'will last a long time' I don't feel are true. It is a quick and easy read and perhaps for that reason it is easy to read it, forget it and move on.

Its worth the money as its so cheap so probably worth checking out yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind expanding stuff 11 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
There is something very exciting about reading a book so close to the date it was first created especially as books generally take up to a year to get published these days and are out of date before they even hit the virtual shelves of Amazon. This tells me the author is either very clever, very well connected or possibly both; either way he has a lot to teach me about time management and tapping into my own creative potential. Having listened to an interview with Tom Evans for the first time this week I found him refreshingly normal, understated and yet deeply passionate and matter of fact about what he does. He has some fascinating ideas and seemingly limitless imagination all backed up by what appears to be sound logic and reasoning. Then reading this book, in only a few hours, I can tell you his writing style is equally as captivating and he doesn't waste a word. 99p well spent! I can well believe it took just 18 days to write, publish and get 'This We Know' into print. Why? It's a short read but in no way whimsical; the content is packed with insights and original ideas to challenge your thinking - the way all books should be written in my time-poor opinion! It feels like it was an effortless project delivered with the minimum of sweat and maximum of ease, which of course should be the way all books are created and yet this seems to be the exception rather than the rule. I'm sure Mr Evans plans to turn this accepted publishing convention on its head before you can say: "time waits for no man". I am inspired to get writing properly now and further explore the numerous new ideas he has opened my mind to and reignited my interest in just from reading this great little book. It is now a favourite of mine aloneside The Flinch by Julien Smith - another top read for sparking motivation and fearless inspiration which is quick to read and costs you nothing on Kinde!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant!! 10 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What I love about this book is the ride it takes you on.

It gets you thinking about the significance and issues of having 7 billion people on good old Planet Earth. At the same time, it drills down to the fears, guilt and anger we all dwell in from day to day.

It's packed with facts too and educates while it takes you on this exhilarating ride. It delivers the solution though that macroscopic change starts with each of changing our minds, one by one.

The Postscript of Planet Earth in 2112 is enthralling and entertaining. I want to live on that version of Earth - and I want a leviton!
