Book Description

1 Jun 2009 This Is
Like the other Sasek classics, these are facsimile editions of his original books. The brilliant, vibrant illustrations have been meticulously preserved, remaining true to his vision more than forty years later and, where applicable, facts have been updated for the twenty-first century, appearing on a "This is . . . Today" page at the back of each book. The stylish, charming illustrations, coupled with Sasek’s witty, playful narrative, make these books a perfect souvenir that will delight both children and their parents, many of whom will remember them from their own childhood. In This is the Way to the Moon, first published in 1963, Sasek rockets readers to Cape Canaveral—the space capital of the world, a science-fiction-turned-fact spot on the Florida coast—with a nostalgic look at the electronic brains that put our man up into space and brought him down again. Also included are the updated statistics about the lunar landing and a mini history of NASA’s space program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miroslav Sasek 31 Aug 2009
Format:Hardcover
Inspiring as ever, I bought this as a joke present for a friend after the 40 yr celebrations of the moon landing, but soon discovered it was a rare gem. Mr Sasek is a beautiful illustrator with a keen eye for detail and a quirky and jovial way of telling the story of the topic in hand. He also covered many countries in his famous 'This is...' series, with Britain, New York, Paris and Ireland being a few of the areas covered in the series. He captures the essence of those countries and all their unusual elements and famous landmarks in his fun illustrations. I'd recommend any of his books, great for kids and adults alike.

although not as good as the Hong Kong or London one...good for collection though. Lovely pictures and nicely written, my two year old son loves the variety of rockets shown.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 31 Dec 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I cannot count the amount of times I've read this to my son. I gave it to him a year ago when he was only 3 and although it's aimed at much older kids he absolutely loves it. He knows most of it by heart! I've learned a few facts too.
