I've been a fan of the Get Up Kids for about 8 years now and I finally got around to working my way through all the other projects that the guys have been involved it.
I got this album a couple months back and have to say; I was happily surprised. At first it didn't massively stand out to me but I enjoyed Jim's (largely solo) writing. After a couple of listens I realised how many great tracks are actually on this!
The subjects, (relationships, love, break-ups etc.) are perhaps not the most original but the actual songs sound original and the production is great.
Stand out tracks for me are the title track, "It's never about what it's about" (one of the heavier tracks and some of the strongest vocals) and single "Empty Tank" which has a really charming video! Crash Sounds also deserves a mention.
This has fast become one of my essential albums. If you're a fan of the Get Up Kids or just looking for an easy to listen to rock album I'd highly recommend this.
I'm kind of sad to have discovered them so late but in a recent interview Jim said he'd been working on new stuff so hopefully it'll surface sometime soon. Go Suptie!
