Surprisingly great 12 Aug 2009
Format:Audio CD
I've been a fan of the Get Up Kids for about 8 years now and I finally got around to working my way through all the other projects that the guys have been involved it.
I got this album a couple months back and have to say; I was happily surprised. At first it didn't massively stand out to me but I enjoyed Jim's (largely solo) writing. After a couple of listens I realised how many great tracks are actually on this!
The subjects, (relationships, love, break-ups etc.) are perhaps not the most original but the actual songs sound original and the production is great.
Stand out tracks for me are the title track, "It's never about what it's about" (one of the heavier tracks and some of the strongest vocals) and single "Empty Tank" which has a really charming video! Crash Sounds also deserves a mention.

This has fast become one of my essential albums. If you're a fan of the Get Up Kids or just looking for an easy to listen to rock album I'd highly recommend this.
I'm kind of sad to have discovered them so late but in a recent interview Jim said he'd been working on new stuff so hopefully it'll surface sometime soon. Go Suptie!

Nice debut for Suptic and crew 22 Jun 2007
By Dusty Punch - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
One listen to "This Town's Disaster," and you'll come to the realization that the songwriting talent of the Get Up Kids was equally distributed. Standout tracks include "Lost Without You,""Blue Skies," and "Goodnight to Romance." Suptic's voice is perfectly suited for the refreshingly non-emo sound. There's room to grow, but with the quality of their first album that can only mean good things.

One of the best cds of the year 3 Dec 2006
By Squire Boone - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This cd definately tops my list for one of the best cds of the year. This is by far one of the strongest debuts from any band I've heard in a long time.

Fantastic Power POP 3 Aug 2006
By Film Buff - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I don't know much about the Get Up Kids or emo music but I love this cd. It is great power pop from start to finish. I caught their show in Brooklyn and they were so great live. I came home and bought the entire cd off of Amazon and I love it! This disc definitely captures excitement of the live show. Don't know what is going on with the dude below but he needs to relax and enjoy this album on its own merits. And by the way, I googled their lyrics and they're great too.
