Book Description

8 Dec 2008
Barry Brooks is a man on the up. Living with the girl of his dreams, with a new, well-paid job on the horizon, everything is going swimmingly. Things couldn't go more swimmingly if he turned into a fish and jumped in the pond. Unfortunately, what Barry doesn't know is that one weekend, upon arriving home from a charity hike across Great Britain, his life is about to get flushed down the toilet. Big style. It will tear him apart, shatter his spirit, and ultimately, break his heart. But hey, that's life, folks...

Product Description

Review

A well worked story that is both realistic and unbelievable at the same time. Once you get your head around the twists, it's a great read. -- The Bookbag, May 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner 6 Dec 2010
By A. Cruz
Format:Kindle Edition
I hadn't heard of J.P Ledwon before, but the synopsis looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a go, and I'm really glad I did. It was a good read and the story flowed really well keeping me wanting more, very hard to put down. It's a bit like Chick lit, but for men, but anyone would enjoy reading it. It was really dark in parts, but then some scenes were laugh out loud hilarious, and it veered between dark and funny in a very intriguing way. I'd definitely recommend this book if you're looking for someting a bit different, imagine a cross between Mike Gayle and Stephen King, and this is what you get.

I didn't know what to expect when I started to read This Time Around, but after a few pages I was hooked! Ledwon has a very relaxed style of writing which is easy (and quick) to read. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in the male equivalent of chicklit!

5.0 out of 5 stars fast paced, suspensful, well written 15 Jun 2009
By Matthew Arnold - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The novel opens with a tremendously engaging hook in a prologue: the main character sitting in his destroyed apartment contemplating: "I used to have such an amazing life....then over a period of eighteen months, I lost it all". After this, the story jumps back a year and a half to convey his descent into a life unraveling. The first half of the book is best described as dark comedy, not depressing, one thing after another going wrong while at the same time, some things just going weird. This alone would have made for a good story but the author gives us far more. Around the middle of the story, the boundaries of sanity and reality begin to blur and the story takes a very suspenseful turn. The transition into this portion of the book is skillfully done. I could not put the book down during the last third and the ending is creative and unexpected.
