Format:Audio CD
As far as anthologies go,this is one of the finest i've ever purchased,it captures the essence of what talent Glenn Hughes has and in equal quantities you will be amazed and indulge yourself in one of the finest voices Britain ever produced and at the same time shake your head that a man so talented has wasted so much of his life as a bloated,arrogant,conceited junkie who has spurned so many opportunities since leaving rock legends Deep Purple,read on....
Disc 1 primarily deals with the ROCK years covering Trapeze/Purple/Black Sabbath/Gary Moore/Hughes Thrall as well as his first solo album from 1977,before closing with a couple of latter day solo album tracks.
highlights are plenty,from opening tracks 'Medusa' and 'You are the music...' showing how underated Trapeze really were before we hit full throttle with Purple classics such as 'Sail Away' & 'Holy Man'.Next up a couple of tracks from 'Play Me Out' his totally off the wall(at the time) solo album including 'L.A. Cut Off' before returning to the rock world with 'Muscle and Blood' from the outstanding Hughes Thrall disc from'82(probably the best release he ever featured on) and the rock riffage of Moore's 'Reach for the Sky' alongside 'Sabbath's 'No Stranger To Love'(with an oustanding vocal from Glenn), a couple of live classics round off disc 1 namely the legendary 'Burn' taken from the Burning Japan Live disc(a stunning release) and 'Coast to Coast' from 'live in the city of the angels' album.
Disc 2 as you would imagine takes in his solo career throughout the 90's and 00's and is a lot less hectic,more soulful and funkier,for a rocker like myself its not quite as immediate but if you stick with it ,there is a lifetime of listening pleasure here.
Highlights a delightful 'Coffee and Vanilla'from the FEEL album,the beautiful title track from the 'Way It Is' disc,marvel at the silky smooth vocal on 'Curse',this quality remains consistent throughout disc 2,its a bl**dy miracle that a man that spent so much time screaming insanely in the latter days of Purple has been left with a voice as seductive as this(play this disc for the love of your life- see the reaction you get,its well worth it,seductive music for when the lights are low,haha)
Special mention must be made of latter tracks 'Dark Star,Soul Mover & Dopamine',the first two from the SOUL MOVER album a stunning album that pretty much reintroduced Hughes to the record buying public while the latter is a superb slice of heavy rock with Tony Iommi from the FUSED disc which pretty much found Glenn Hughes at the top of the tree in both musical worlds he inhabits a perfect resurrection.
The disc concludes with a couple of unreleased tracks,which are ok and a reworking of the Deep Purple classic 'This Time Around' which while not surpassing the original recording still gets the hairs standing up on your neck.
So there you have a fantastic compilation of Glenn Hughes' work throughout the last 4 decades,simply stunning and probably a miracle he's still here.

This is a a superb retrospective of the career of Mr Hughes (aka 'The Funkmeister' and 'The Voice of Rock)
The collection demonstrates that he has laid down an impressive body of work via his solo work and various collaberations.
A great introduction for new fans whilst existing fans will love the bonus tracks.

The quality of the music & breath of the man's talents all under one roof.
'Justine' is the pick of the bonus tracks.
A recent live cut of 'This Time Around' somehow doesn't touch the MK4 Purp's studio version which should have been included instead.
An inclusion of a career overview interview audio disc would have been the cream on the cake..nit-picking aside a great price & great content for new fans & us ol' stalwarts!
