This class so reminded me of the old Advanced classes, and I should have loved it but for one thing - couldn't hear the music very well. The music seemed to be out of sync, even when I turned down the treble and upped the bass I still had difficulty with the tempo, which I found so off putting. More than once Billy reminds the class to "stay on beat". For that reason I gave 3*. Otherwise it's a good long and faced paced work out, which keeps the heart rate up through out.
Good to see HJ still enjoying his Tae Bo!

ALMOST 4 stars 30 Dec 2010
By Kara L. Sanford - Published on Amazon.com

I checked this out from the library. I almost always do that before buying. First, this was MUCH better than the Amped Up DVD, which was fun but not challenging and pretty much a sales pitch for the bar aka "the amplifier." I really like the energy of the Tae Bo workouts. I like that the other people on the DVDs are not smiley happy Barbie dolls, and I generally really like Billy's energy and direction. I would prefer a little less start slow then move to fast, as after the first time through the whole dvd, I've pretty much got a handle on it and am ready to move into the faster paced stuff. But I do like that this workout in particular is focused mostly on upper body and a pretty good cardio once you get going. What I really, really DON'T like, which bears mentioning even though others have said it, is when Billy stops the workout to drone on AD NAUSEUM about how HE created this and how others have copied him. The cool down period during which everyone stands in prayer prose while Billy talks about himself for two minutes is truly ridiculous. Narcissistic much, Billy? The whole dvd is marred by this. When he stopped the workout and left the exercisers doing the moves slowly the first time while he jabbered on, I got very annoyed. He's forgetting that this is not an infomercial, and the editors are really to blame. They should edit that part out and let us move on. But the "cool down" is the worst. I can't even tell you what he says for the final 1.5 minutes. I stop it after 30 seconds. I'll do this one till I have to turn it back in to the library, but I won't buy a Tae Bo till I find one that is both challenging and doesn't have Billy talking it up as though he has to use his sales skills to convince people that it's a good workout.

Billy is back with Tae bo old school!!!!! 4 Dec 2010

I LOVE tae bo! My favorite is Tae bo advanced Get ripped-It's an old DVD but it always gets me in shape and it's so fun. I also loved the original billy band bootcamp series. I wasn't sure about buying this because of some of the reviews were not that great. BUT I am so happy I bought it anyways.... If you love Taebo get ripped then you will be so happy you got this one. I was sweating 5 minutes into it and I was drenched by the end...The arm segment killed me and he has the simple old Taebo moves but you don't have time to stop. Not for a newbie...Tae bo is a great all over workout-abs, thighs, butt, arms. I have to admit some of his latest DVD's just didn't do it for me-but buy this one and you won't be dissappointed. Can't wait to do it tomorrow!

Not bad, but the original was better 21 Feb 2011
By Ms. Moneybags - Published on Amazon.com

I bought the original 30-minute Tae Bo workout on VHS back in 1999. I bought "This is Tae Bo" to replace it now that my workout space does not have a VCR (only DVD player).

Overall, this video is not too bad, probably worth 2.5 stars moreso than 3. I definitely feel like I got a good workout after doing it, however I have the following complaints:

* Music is boring and barely audible, even more bland than the original.
* Billy is talking all the time and repeats stuff, even when not necessary ("Head down! Head down! Head down! Head down!"). He seems to be afraid of silence.
* Either he's making it up as he goes, or his backup crew doesn't know the workout by heart, because they're obviously caught off guard in several of the transitions.
* Although he keeps yelling "cardio!", this is not a cardio workout. I do Zumba, Jazzercise, Core Rhythms, and a handful of exercise videos that leave me breathing way harder than this does. This is more of a toning video.

And the worst offense:
* The "cool-down" consists of about 30 seconds of tai-chi moves, then standing in a meditative position for a full 2 minutes while Billy blabs on and on about how he created Tae Bo and how this is the original and the other martial arts workout copycats are not as good and blah blah blah.... a completely inappropriate and self-serving diatribe. Meditation is supposed to be about emptying the mind, Billy. And some stretching would have been nice.
