Wonderful! 10 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Emma Blair's This Side of Heaven is the kind of book that grabs your attention right from the very first page and does not let it go until you reach the very end.

Sheila Beattie lives in the village of Dragonholme, secure in the knowledge that she will live there for the rest of her life with her darling Eric.

But, when the sea claims both her family and her beloved, Sheila must soldier on for the sake of her heartbroken mother and sisters-in-law who have lost their husbands.

Fate seems to be smiling down on her when she gets a job as a clerk in the laird's hall, but when a dram loosens the laird's tongue, she realizes that she can't live under the same roof and runs off to Glasgow where she learns to love again.

But the dark clouds of the war gather and Sheila's beloved loses his life in the war. She decides to head back to Dragonholme, where she finds that not everyone is pleased to see her.

For those who love a good saga, then put your feet up and get ready for an absorbing tale that will make you laugh and cry.

Emma Blair is a truly talented author and I look forward to reading more of her brilliant books.

A real page turner 19 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback
Sheila Beattie is 16 and lives in the fishing village of Dragonholme, she knows exactly what she wants that she will marry her darling Eric soon, but fate has other ideas, the sea claims some of her family and her darling Eric.

Sheila gets a job working at the Laird's Hall, but when a drink loosens James Campbell tongue one evening, Sheila moves to Glasgow to start a new life for herself and falls deeply in love, but there is a war looming and tragedy strikes once again leaving Sheila pregnant.

A few years later Sheila returns to Dragonholme with her son and best friend Pat, not everyone is pleased to see her.

This is the second book of Emma Blair that I have read, the first one being 'Maggie Jordan', which I did enjoy slightly more than this book, but then if an Author brings a lot of books out, there are obviously going to be one or two that are better than others.

From the back cover..... 10 April 2007
Format:Paperback
When she was sixteen, Sheila Beattie knew exactly what her future would be. She would marry her darling Eric, a fisherman like her father, and they would raise their family and dream their simple dreams in the village in which they'd been born. Her life lay before her, happy, safe, and secure. But she was sixteen - and about to discover that in this world there is nothing certain but change; no happiness that is guaranteed; no one and nothing to be trusted but the voice of your own heart
