Having been privileged to spend 3 weeks touring the wonderful African country of Namibia this book is one of my most treasured possessions, as I only have to begin to turn the pages and I am transported back to the Namib desert, the Skeleton coast and the Etosha National Park.
Commencing with a profile of Namibia with much useful factual information, there follows a stunning collection of full colour photographs depicting the very essence of this desert land.
This book would be an ideal gift for anyone who has visited Namibia, a super read for anyone who wants to go there, inspiration for any armchair traveller seeking exotic destinations and of interest to anyone who loves beautiful photography.

This is a good pictorial book of one of the lesser known corners of the world. It is in two parts the first 25 pages profile the country covering the land, the people, the towns, the wilderness, history, government and economy.
There is a good account of the German genocide of the Herero people in the 1900s when 65,000 people out of 80,000 were massacared.
The second part of the book is 125 pages of excellent pictures devoted mainly to towns, wildlife and scenery, very few of the black population are in evidence.
There is a very good map.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good general coffee table book 27 Nov 2000

This book is a great souvenir of your trip to Namibia or a gift to bring back. I'd advise purchasing on line so you don't have to lug your book around, mine got damaged and wasn't suitable to give as a gift. It is pretty general but ideal if you want one book that is affordable and encompases your trip. There is a large section on text in the front which goes into the history of the country and also the different tribal groups. It is very interesting to read before you go. THe remainder of the book is mostly photographs. Some are brilliant.
