About the Author

Sandra Lousada made her name as a portrait photographer in the 1960s, and was commissioned to take pictures of Lawrence Olivier, Vanessa Redgrave and David Hockney, amongst others. Her work regularly appeared in Vogue, Queen and Tatler. Having children of her own sparked off a new interest in the field of child photography, and it is this area of her work for which she has become best known in recent years. Sandra also took the beautiful black-and-white photographs for BABY DAY (0 333 90402 8), BABY PLAY (0 333 90399 4), BABY MOVES (0 333 90400 1) and BABY FACES (0 333 90398 6), winner of the Sainsbury's Baby Book Award 2001.

My daughter really loves this book, and she's only 10 months old. I think that it is the photographs she loves, as they are "real" babies. Most babies love looking at other babies and older children, and this book is full of them. Of course the best bit is on the last page, where it say "this little baby is the one I love best" and there is a mirror, in which the baby can see his/herself. My daughter likes to hold the book up close and look at herself in the mirror! I really loved this book and am trying to find some more that are similar.

This is the best book I've bought for my son so far! I bought it for him when he was 6 months old and it has been a hit with him since. He loves the pictures of real babies and likes to hold the book to his face and "kiss" the babies - particularly the little one making lots of noise. And the mirror at the end of the book never fails to excite him. He's 10months old now and still loves this book.
The colours on the pages are good with contrasting bubbles which attract little one's attention too. And the words are everyday words that baby will soon learn. I think this book will be useful when a child first starts reading too.
I couldn't recommend it more highly.

`This Little Baby' is a fun book for babies and their parents. It is a lovely rhyme which has a repetition of this little baby at the start of each page. After one short sentence there is a picture of a baby doing that and at the end there is something that is a little bit different because instead of having a photo of another little baby there is a mirror so your little one can see themselves! How exciting for them, this book I can guarantee that your child will smile and laugh! I would defiantly recommend `This Little Baby' to any mum or dad of a 0 - 18 month child.

This Little Baby was one of my daughters favourite books as a baby. She loved it.

The book is only 6 pages long (or 12 depending on which way you look at it) and is made from a thick cardboard-like material. The pages are nice and chunky for little fingers to handle.

The book doesn't have a story as such and instead has different babies carrying out everyday activities, such as playing with toys, crawling and sleeping.

On the very last page is a plastic mirror where the child can look at themselves. Even though my daughter knew the mirror was there, she always acted really shocked when we got to it! It's a great ending to the book as it has the suprise factor and the child can happily look into the mirror long after the book has finished.

The photos are lovely as they are real photos of real children and are in black and white which give them a really classic look. Babies also seem to love looking at other babies so it's even nicer for them.

The beauty of this book is that although it has words, children that cannot read can still enjoy it as the pictures are very clear and obvious. My daughter understood what each page meant without having to be able to read the words - she would often flick through it and you would hear her say words like baby, toy, car, sleepy, crying, sad, crawl and so on...

For this reason I would say that that the book helped with her speech, along with other educational aspects.
We usually read the book together but the older she got the more happy she was just to go through it by herself.

I would best recommend this book to children 6 months - 2 years. My daughter is now 3 years old and although she has outgrown this book (she likes more words these days), she still likes to have a flick through every now and again. It's totally unisex too.

We received this book free as part of a books for babies scheme when my daughter was 7 months old and it has been one of her favourite books ever since. It's short, sweet and simple -- it takes less than a minute to read, and she loved looking at the photos of other babies right from the beginning. The last page is a mirror and it's been interesting to see how her reaction to her own reflection in the book has changed as she's gotten older.

This book has a short series of black and white photos of babies teamed with simple rhyming text on contrasting coloured pages plus a mirror at the end so the baby can see him/herself. My seven month old son loves it - the picture of a baby smiling (ready to go) has him laughing every time. This is one of the first books to hold his attention and he reaches out for it as soon as he sees it. A great start to a book collection for any child.

My son got this book as a freebie at one of his health reviews and to date it is one of his favourites. Whenever we reach the page which says "this little baby lies down for a rest" he copies the picture exactly and his best party trick is to do the action whenever you ask him to "lie down for a rest". He does this without the picture prompt and six months later it still makes us laugh, as it does anyone else who is privy to this action. He also likes to kiss the babies. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Buy it.

My little boy is almost one and recieved his 'this little baby' book in his first book start pack. he absolutely loves it... to the point that the book is now in 3 peices front cover, page 2 and then the remaining pages! i am desperately seeking a replacement for him and also one that we can keep for a memory box. i would recommend this book to any one, my older children love to read it to him as it is repetative and has easily recognisable words they are all primary school children. definately worth its money
