Review

"Susannah Conway's new book works magic: it meets us in our darkest moments-of grief, shame, hopelessness-and shows us how to transform them into love, creativity, and confidence. Written with tenderness, filled with gorgeous images and helpful exercises, she reminds us that the beauty we seek is always right in front of our eyes." --Susan Piver, author of The Wisdom of a Broken Heart "You hold in your hand one of those books. You will buy multiple copies of it to press into the hands of friends. You will mark it up with notes, and read passages again and again. You will not lend this out. This book was forged in grief and is lit by love. Feast your creative heart!"--Jennifer Louden, author of The Life Organizer and The Woman's Comfort Book"Reading Susannah's words feels like spending time with a perfect friend-the kind who mixes mojitos as she listens to your dreams, laughs and cries with you, and most of all, persuades you that YOU CAN DO IT! I lost count of the times I was inspired to put it down to take a photograph or to write in my journal. I'm still bowled over by the generosity of this book." ---Sarah Salway, Canterbury Laureate and author of You Do Not Need Another Self-Help Book

This is an incredibly positive, life-affirming book about Susannah's journey from grief and despair to finding her life's purpose and experiencing deep joy. Susannah Conway runs the Unravelling e-courses and I took her class back in 2010. I was amazed at how quickly I was able to engage with women all over the world via the online community which she had created for us within the course itself but also the thoughtful (and thought-provoking!) exercises we were given every week.
Similar exercises or 'reflections' appear at the end of each chapter, which details Susannah's story from the sudden death of her partner, to her life today as a thriving e-course facilitator, writer, photographer and proud aunt. Her story is very moving and incredibly honest, which helps you quickly realise that your fears and disappointments aren't unique and that you can build your own life into something more meaningful through the various tools she suggests and describes.
And did I mention the exquisite Polaroid photographs peppered throughout the text?
A must read for those who are interested in altering their life's course but in a gentle, fun and meaningful way.

I read this book in a week, and immediately turned back to the beginning to read it again. Having followed Susannah's blog for a few months, I knew that I'd find myself at home in her style and way of writing about emotions and unraveling.
The imagery and stories she tells are the true chicken soup for the soul, but - more than anything - her ability to express them and the bravery she shows reassured me that there is a way forward and a light at the end of the tunnel.
I feel incredibly grateful that this book ended up in my life. I already know it's one of the books I'll pull down from the shelf over and over again.

This is a really lovely and hope-filled book. It begins with tales of loss and battle scars from the author's own childhood and the tragic loss of her dear boyfriend. It beautifully weaves into how she started a blog and used it as her window out into the world during a time when she really wasn't ready to leave the house. And it proceeds to guide you as the reader through ways that she coped and is still coping with childhood pain and loss. It's a beautiful tale of a survivor and for the survivors in us all and the book has many pretty photos and inspiring words that are faith strengthening and encouraging. Beautifully done!

I had a tingling feeling that this was going to be a good book and what a delight when my hunch proved to be a hundred per cent right. Susannah writes from the heart in an honest and open way about her life experiences. It is a book that you can feel the author has lived through the experience. She writes from the depths of life not the surface. Not only is it a beautiful, inspirational book to read her words flow off the page like a poem. Plus the images are seductive drawing you in as are the Reflective exercises at the end of each chapter. It is an exquisitely designed book with a lovely layout and font and the images bring the book to life. It has been years since I bought several copies of one book to give to my friends but I have already started doing this with this book. Finally I lent it to my sister on holiday a couple of days ago. She works in a demanding senior role in teaching and really reads whilst on holiday. Suddenly she started squealing from the bedroom shouting my name. When I ran in I found her curled up on her bed reading the book. She looked up with a glint in her eye and said this book is delightful.

I've followed Susannah's blog for years and have done the Unravelling course, which I found honestly, life changing. When I bought this book I had high expectations, and the book succeeded them. Although Susannah's catalyst for her unravelling was the death of her boyfriend, and the underlying story is about grief, I still found the book wonderful for building on what I learnt on the e-course. I've recommended this book to many of my friends and family.
