I was nervous to read Sam and Linda's story. I love this series and I didn't know how I would react to a story wrapped so heavily in S & M. I should have known that Cherise Sinclair would again create a love story so realistic and intense that I almost felt the S & M was secondary.......almost

Sam and Linda's story is amazing!! Linda is healing from her ordeal with the slavers and she is struggling with what her idea of being "normal" should be vs what it is. We learn more about Sam and his past and how he is struggling to overcome his own demons.
It's a beautiful love story that humanizes Master Sam. You fall in love with how he is a natural protector to everyone and really isn't as scary as he wants you to believe ~ "My reputation's going to hell"

I absolutely LOVED Jessica's bachelorette party!! I laughed out loud from the toys to the paddle game to when the Masters showed up to take them all home! Can you say; overprotective, possessive, domineering, controlling, etc, etc, etc....very funny!!

I cannot wait for Sally's story!!

This was extreme yet these two were actually made for one another and to find what these two have is special so if your pulling a face whilst reading this remember we're all different.
Linda was kidnapped, enslaved then rescued. She is a masochist (receiving pleasure from pain) and with the help of the Shadowlands gang she's coping. She's already met Master Sam (he beat her at a slave auction and humiliated her which can't forget) and trying to avoid him isn't gonna work cos he gave her something she craves 'pain'.
Master Sam is a sadist (gets pleasure from inflicting pain) and he feels a tad guilty about the slave auction. He also knows the pleasure he got from their brief encounter was a rare thing for him and he'd like some more. It seems his alpha protection mode is about to kick into gear. He's a patient man who embarks on getting into her good books by protecting her from the harsh words of the press, the public and even her children.
Linda likes having Master Sam around and gives into her needs of pain which she knows he will willingly give.
Their bdsm scenes made me squirm. The exquisite torture was harsh at times and yet they both thrived on it making them realise that they loved one another.
This was an intense story but we did get some relief with a ladies hen party that had me in laughing.
A very revealing insight into a sadist and a masochist.

Just as good as the rest of this series, what stood out to me is the story's focus on a sadist-masochist relationship. "Seriously not my thing," I thought, but the depth, humanity and integrity of the main characters leaves little room for judgment. Great read!

Yet again Cherise has thrilled me with the continuation of her magnificent Shadowlands series. This being the seventh in the series it focuses on Linda and Sam's story that many of us have been clamouring for this past year or more.

To gain the best from this book I think it important to read, or if like me read over a year back, to re read book six to refresh yourself with events prior to this story. In book six it focuses on the heinous crime, but there in reality for some poor souls, of abduction and sexual slavery or prostitution. It is right that the subject be acknowledged and Cherise tackled this extremely well, here she focuses on how it can affect a person after the events psychologically, and the very real threat and problems that come with associated post traumatic stress disorder. Where Linda has to get over her nightmares, flashbacks and try and find her way back to the land of the living and of course acknowledge her sexuality, her newly found and awoken masochism and submission that can make her fly the realms of ecstasy, yet the guilt based on her life so far confuse and confound her.

This also looks at nature versus nurture and childhood, family and social conditioning, how it affects the individual, and sadly how the majority of people still lack any understanding of the wide spectrum of BDSM kink nor are willing to find out and accept such variations and differences. Back to the bullying and harassment of the school playground and majority towards anyone who doesn't follow or look like the parameters of their idea of 'normal'. Makes me angry, sad and sick...yet also full of hope that books like Cherise's and the notoriety of E.L.James books are making people question now, learn and acknowledge BDSM more than ever before.

I really like this series and enjoy the mix of mystery, romance and sexy erotica. This particular story however was not the best. I felt that the story was a little underwhelming and although the plot has continued from the previous books and the I loved that the main protagonists were older, I was left feeling a little disappointed. I felt that at times this book verged on the worst of erotic writing where the sex scenes are so prioritised the story gets barely cursory attention and in this case it almost became preachy in respect of any/all sexual proclivities should still be about choice. Having said all that I did still enjoy this book, I really liked both Sam and Linda as characters and the sex sizzles. The arc of the story was progressed and the other characters are still in there and getting on with their lives and new ones are also being introduced. I will happily read the next in the series.
