1.0 out of 5 stars The USA is not the world! 19 July 2009
I was really disappointed with this book. Around the world seems to mean around the USA. And the pictures are not evocative of the countries described. I feel this was a missed opportunity to show children going to school all over the world, with pictures which help children to see what other countries look like.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good 3 Mar 2008
Edith Baer has written this brilliant book about how children get to their schools all around the world. It includes USA, Russia, India, Egypt and lots of other countries but not the UK! The pictures are very bright and very colourful; the sentences quite short and easy to read; they are easy to understand on top of all that. Conclusion: it is a great book which is informative and useful. The rhyming is good. Criticism: The writing should have been a bit bigger so it would have been good for young children as well as children around my age (9 - 12). Also, some of the names are hard to read. Rating: I would rate it 7/ 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book for multiculural and transportation lessons 13 Oct 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Next year I will be a teacher and I am starting to build my classroom library now. This book is a wonderful book to have. It discusses forms of transportation that most children would not think of. It also teaches them about other places in the world.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book for multicultural unit 8 Jan 2006
By C. Goodman - Published on Amazon.com
The illustrations in the book aren't fantastic, but they are clear and show the landscape of where each child lives. The text describes, using only a sentence or two for each page, how children around the world get to school. I think the brief text is great for the subject--since the book generates a lot of discussion, it takes awhile to get through. This is the type of book I would recommend in paperback for your classroom use; don't spend the extra money for a hardcover version. The kids enjoy hearing it but it's not something they'll ask for over and over. Oh- and the book has a back page with a map showing where each child is from. What a great addition for Kindergarten/First graders who are more familiar with the globe.

Needed as a core book for school.
3.0 out of 5 stars nice but not outstanding 10 Jan 2011

My 5(almost 6) year old read it once and never picked it up again. To be fair it was competing with all the Christmas gifts. We have many books about different cultures but this one didn't seem to grab her. Probably better for the preschool set.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good for primary 20 Aug 2014

Good for primary. Nice rhyme and choices of places; although, I had to reread at times to figure out which part of the world.
