5.0 out of 5 stars The Impressions 12 Nov 1999
Format:Audio CD
For me the two albums featured on this CD see the Impressions at their peak. Mayfield's songwriting had reached maturation and combined with his stunning production/arrangement makes both albums almost faultless. Highlights of "This Is My Country" include the title track with strong political lyrics, "Gone Away" and "Fool For You". The second album "Young Mods' Forgotten Story" is a masterpiece. Choice tracks include the single "Choice Of Colours" with it's strong lyrics and the closing track "Might Mighty". Songs such as "Deceiving Heart" contain so much feeling that they almost bring you to tears. Mayfield's voice is beautiful and he arranges the strings and horns both subtly and powerfully. For me both albums (particuarly "Mods'") are up there with the likes of Marvin Gayes "What's Going On" and other classics of that era.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just brilliant 10 Dec 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Had heard a couple of tracks before but never both LPs in the whole. And it is all brilliant. A mix of right on soul and lovers laments. Essential for any fan of 1960s Motown or Stax - similar in sound but stretching it at the same time.
