Format: Audio CD
This album is one of the better compilations presenting a collection of Al di Meola's work, and is far superior to 'The Collection' and the so-called 'Best of Al di Meola' that are also available, although, as with the 'Anthology' it neglects to include 'Mediterranean Sundance' which is a real shame as this is by far his best piece.
That said the album does contain a couple of gems in the form of 'Short Tales of the Black Forest' and 'Fantasia Suite for Two Guitars' which will be familiar to fans of 'Friday Night in San Francisco'. On the downside the tracks are somewhat lost in amongst a selection of some truly cringe-worthy schmaltzy numbers which leave me reaching straight for the skip button on my remote control.
If, like me, you are willing to buy an album for a couple of worthy tracks then this is worth the expense, but be prepared for some real 80’s horrors as well complete with terrible synthesizer cheese!

I love Al Di Meola . I recently bought his first four recordings . Great as those discs are , this is the one i take on my long walks . It truly is lovingly selected from Al's large catalog of recordings . There are a GREAT array of musical pairings and situations to be found here . It's a journey , it's a joy , it's THRILLING . You've got our word on it . sadly that's all we're got to give you . I'd give all Di meola fans a copy if i could . wonderful .

Al Di Meola's FINEST!!! 25 Jun 2007
By Johnny Boy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
As a longtime Al Di Meola fan and a lover of the guitar, I'm so glad I found this album. It features highlights from his best period, the Columbia years, as opposed to the Manhattan years.

Opening with 'Race With Devil On Spanish Highway' was a great choice. Al's guitar is incredible, and he shows he knows how to rock out in one breath and make beautiful music in the next.

At the time he recorded the closing track, 'Sarabande', which appears on his debut, he was only 22 years of age. Even on this track, Al shows his versatility on the instrument.

I would definitely recommend this and these other albums from Al:

Land of the Midnight Sun
Elegant Gypsy
Electric Rendezvous
Casino
Tour De Force-"Live!"
Friday Night In San Francisco
Passion, Grace And Fire

A very worthwhile CD! A MUST-HAVE!!!

Great place to start 5 Mar 2005
By POMTE3718 - Published on Amazon.com

If you're new to Al's music, this is the perfect place to start. This was my first Di Meola album and have since bought 2 more (Di Meola Revisited and Friday Night in S.F. [with John McLaughlin and Paco DeLucia]). The first track is a perfect opener. It's very energetic, fast, and incredible guitar work. In some tracks there is a distinct Latin feel, which I personally dig. I recommend this cd to any aspiring guitarist. It will definitely be worth your while.
