About the Author

Mike Southon was educated at Papplewick School, Ascot, and Wellington College in Crowthorne. He only lasted one year at Imperial College, preferring to drink beer and chase women rather than go to lectures. He then had a variety of jobs, including helping British Leyland assemble trucks and buses and making sugar into detergent, before just about completing a degree in Chemical Engineering and Management Economics at the University of Bradford. It was there, in 1984, that he met Mike Banahan and Andy Rutter, who, along with Peter and David Griffi ths were founders of The Instruction Set. He joined them as Director of Sales and Marketing, and the fi ve of them built the company to one that employed 150 people and was sold to Hoskyns Group in 1989. Mike then set off in a different direction, pursuing a full-time, and very successful, performing career in colleges and theatres as 70s disco legend Mike Fab-Gere. Then he went back into the business world, working on 17 start-ups, some of which later went public, others of which went broke. The latter were as informative as the former,A" he comments. All these experiences went into creating The Beermat Entrepreneur, which was published in 2002, and later The Boardroom Entrepreneur and Sales on a Beermat, all co-authored with Chris West. Mike is now one of the world's top business speakers and conference moderators, a Fellow of the Professional Speakers Association. He appears all over the world, from events in schools to major international conferences. When not speaking live, he provides free mentoring to entrepreneurs. He also writes a column, My Business, in the Financial Times every weekend. Mike can be contacted at

5.0 out of 5 stars Great advice and tips! 18 Dec 2010
A really practical and easy to read book! Its split into several different examples, which means you can pick it up and put it down and not miss a thread, taking a dose of inspiration each day, if you like. I read it from cover to cover though! Fabulous examples from some very well established entrepreneurs. I was able to take the strategies I felt i would be able to follow the most based on my natural style. A great read! I really recommend it.

Read this to prevent re-inventing the wheel !

I love books which are an easy read - perhaps because I'm a simple bloke myself. This is How YooDoo it fits perfectly.

I know the Author will take this in the right way when I describe it as 'a perfect loo book'. Each chapter is just a few pages and offers a piece of inspiration, in just the right time, when you're sat down!

Simple, lot's of aha moments so buy one for your smallest room.

4.0 out of 5 stars yoodoo it ! 6 Dec 2010
After reading an earlier publication the beermat , entrepeurship yoodoo underwrites good advice from well known experts to give tips on how to make business work even with a difficult trading period, in fact there are more opportunities for the creative during changing patterns of trade. Good read well done !

5.0 out of 5 stars Yoo Buy It! 14 Jan 2011
By Graham
Mike Southon has the accessible and engaging style of someone that you really would hope to meet in a pub. His real genius is in sounding like an ordinary bloke who just happens to have picked up some interesting ideas from other people, while being brilliantly successful himself as an entrepeneur, entertainer and professional speaker.

In this book, he captures the Greatest Business Hits of a spectacular array of high-profile contributors. There are many ideas here that you will want to use in your own business on the same day as you read them.

Mike has Been There, Done That and Got The Beermat. Just buy the book now and enjoy the benefit of his experience.

By the way, my full name is Graham Davies, but I have just not been able to get the Amazon Review mechanism to show that!
