5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful 29 Oct 2004
By Canzone - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Of all of O'Day's recordings this is by far my favorite. The selections couldn't be better, and the singing is just about perfect. "Nigthingale" has never been done more affectingly; the catch in the voice makes it all the more charming. Highly recommended - except for the price. Yet another example of having to pay a ridiculous price because Universal is too greedy, or stupid, to release the CD domestically. At least we can thank Universal Japan for making it available at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best vocal jazz albums ever 20 Jun 2003

This is a remastering of Anita's hit first 12-inch L.P. for Verve, "Anita," also known as "Anita O'Day Sings" and "This is Anita O'Day." This album still shines as one of the best vocal jazz packages ever recorded, with a splendid choice of songs, tasty arrangements by Buddy Bregman and Anita in top form--inventive, saucy, thoughtful, burning on the up tempo numbers, luxurious and thoughtful on the ballads. It was a big hit and led to Anita making money for Verve for many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long lost Anita. 17 Mar 2008
By D. Laguarta - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Anita O'Day was & is one of the most talented singers I have heard. She deserves a place on the pedestal of greats with Ella, Frank, Tony, June & others. I have not heard this album in 20 years, yet it is still as fresh & evergreen as before. She is amazing & one never tires of hearing her repeatedly. Each song she sings is like a new contemporary creation, familiar but somehow new & different in its excellence.
