Product Description

On August 31st 1977, normal life ended for the harper family - Mum (divorced) and her two sons and two daughters. It began with a bang on the walls of their modest two-storey council house in a quiet corner of Enfield. The banging went on. A chest of drawers came in and searched the house. So did the police. A chair moved in front of a police constable...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book really scared me., 6 April 2008
By Leeds lass "The Banker" (England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
It scared me so much i had to leave it, take a break from it, and start reading another book, to take my mind off it. I never went back to it - i was too nervous. I don`t see how any of this could possibly be made up or `fixed` by the children. There were adults in the house all the time, and cameras etc. If these kids managed to fool all the experts involved then they must be exceptionally clever, or the experts must be exceptionally dim. They all saw the child being thrown onto the bed. You can`t fake that. The part that frightened me the most was when the girl saw the man looking at her over the top of the bedroom door. He was so big his head just looked over the top and he stared at her. That freaked me out. This is a very scary read, and whether you believe it or not is up to you, but it`s definately worth the money - unlike some of the rubbish they try to pass off as `ghost stories`.

5.0 out of 5 stars definitive enfield poltergeist, 13 Oct 2003
im not sure if it was playfair's engaging style or the extraordinary nature and frequency of the events he documents, but i was completely unable to put this book down. it is extremely interesting to be able to read about this famous case though the writings of someone who was there to experence it, someone who willingly admits he was as completely mystified over the occurances as the rest of the country. although the author occasionally seems a little too immersed in the family and events to be objective, he manages to hold the readers attention with his simple, chatty style. good stuff.

By A Customer
I red this book a few years ago And have been unable to purchase it until i looked at Amazon. The book itself was an excellent copy supplied by Amazon. I was very pleased with it,The story is very interesting but a lot of the phenomenon i believe was created by the children but still a good read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bedtime Story, anyone?
This account of the Enfield poltergeist case isn't convincing at all. It is written in the manner a piece of fiction would be, not a factual investigation. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars A far more prosaic truth
The book is unconvincing and contains as much truth as Harry Price's investigation at Borley Rectory
