Book Description

Molly Somerville has grown up in the shadow of her beautiful and glamorous big sister. Phoebe is beautiful, blissfully married, and the owner of the most successful professional football team in America. Molly is a struggling children's writer who earned her reputation for trouble even before she gave away her fifteen million dollar inheritance. And Molly's long term crush on her sister's star player, Kevin Tucker doesn't help matters- especially as the gorgeous, model-chasing hunk can't even remember her name.

But one fateful weekend sees Molly and Kevin marooned together at a remote cabin. The experience is life-changing but the results are disastrous. Before the dust settles, Kevin's in trouble with his boss. And Molly's in even deeper trouble with her heart . . .

Amazon.co.uk Review

Ever since she was a teenager, children's book author Molly Somerville has been infatuated with handsome Kevin Tucker, quarterback for her sister's Chicago Stars football team. Unfortunately, Kevin doesn't know she's alive until one fateful weekend when they're marooned together at the family vacation cabin. When Molly gets carried away by her creative imagination and compromises Kevin, the results are disastrous and before the dust settles, Kevin's in trouble with his boss, Molly's in deep trouble with her emotions and both of them are in danger of losing their hearts. Their journey to a happy ending is dicey, at best, and even if they can get past their outrageous and painful beginning, whether these two can lower their guards and let the other into their equally wary hearts, is questionable.

Bestselling author Susan Elizabeth Phillips makes her hardcover debut with This Heart of Mine, a wonderful contemporary tale that features two familiar faces from prior novels as the hero and heroine. The characters are complicated, with difficult pasts that have shaped the adults they now are, and Phillips uses a deft touch in sketching their personal growth as they're tested with tragedy and bound together with love and a healthy dose of humour. As always, Phillips brings her delightful wit and a warm family setting to this novel that is sure to captivate readers. --Lois Faye Dyer

I absolutely loved this book and read it in two days, unable to put it down and yet not wanting to finish it at the same time. This was the first book of Susan Elizabeth Phillips that I have read and can't wait to read more. I really enjoyed the bantering and playfulness between the main characters Kevin and Molly and the chemistry that they shared was fantastic. I have to say that my favourite author of all time is Judith MacNaught and until recently had not found anyone to match her until I discovered SEP!

4.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing and funny 2 May 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In terms of romantic novels, Susan E. Phillips really is one of the best. She writes funny dialogues and gives you a view of how her characters think that is very realistic. Haven't you ever found yourself looking in the mirror talking to yourself? That is how her characters talk to you.
Molly, the main character, actually the sister of Phoebe from It Had To Be You, goes through infatuation, anger and fear to get to the man she loves. Ever had your heart broken so badly you couldn't get out of bed in the morning? So does Molly. And she stays in bed until Kevin comes to get her for some well-deserved R&R. Of course, he also happens to be the one who actually caused her hear to break, so...
Molly is no push-over, even though she has inherited from her sister the weird habit of dragging her little mutt around everywhere she goes.
The dialogue is a killer and sets this novel apart from any other romantic novel stuff. I found myself laughing out loud at three a.m. with this book. Very good book if you need to relax and feel good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Return to form 15 Mar. 2002

Format:Mass Market Paperback
A return to form: sharper and funnier and, despite the 'bunny' sections, a good deal less sentimental than her last book, which was deeply disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Heart of MINE 28 Mar. 2008
Format:Paperback
This was an impulse buy from a cheap book shop when I was only browsing and I have to say it was the best purchase I made that week. I had never heard of SEP at(a new favourite now though) so when I found myself going to bed early to read it and staying up til crazy hours still deeply engaged I was surprised. I was reading it during the recent earthquake which is the only reason I was awake to feel it!

The characters are warm and I could so relate to Molly. The things that go through her head made me realise I'm not alone in my own thoughts. Kevin is the perfect knight-in-shining-armour and his slight arogance comes across as charming. The journey these characters go on is littered with complex obsticals but behind the heartbreak is a sweet, feel-good romance. The cheeky banter between the leads builds up heat and the parallel with Molly's Daphne books illustrates that fairy tales can come true.

My all time favourite book. Something for everyone. Now I plan to explore other SEP books and more from this genre. This book rekindled my enthusiasm for reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable 13 Mar. 2002
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this, particularly as it re-introduced characters from previous books. However, the main premise of the plot left something to be desired. I found it difficult to believe and sympathise with Molly's actions at the beginning of the book but things improved. On the whole, I'm glad I bought and read this but it's not one of SEP's best.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read 2 May 2001
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
'This Heart of Mine' is, without a doubt, a good read. Not quite up to SEP's usual standards however - I can't quite get over the feeling that Molly doesn't deserve a character as cool Kevin Tucker.Though overall I'd say - it's worth it.
