Book Description

You love your best friend.

You trust her with your life.

But could you give her the most precious gift of all?

Alex’s life is a mess. She’s barely holding down a job, only just affording her apartment, and can’t remember when she was last in a relationship. An unexpected pregnancy is the last thing she needs.

Martha’s life is on track. She’s got the highflying career, the gorgeous home and the loving husband. But one big thing is missing. Five rounds of IVF and still no baby.

The solution seems simple.

Alex knows that Martha can give her child everything that she can’t provide. But Martha’s world may not be as perfect as it seems, and letting go isn’t as easy as Alex expected it to be.

Now they face a decision that could shatter their friendship forever.

Provocative. Emotional. Affecting. Share This Fragile Life with your best friend.

Please if you haven't read it then please do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional and beautiful. 4 Jan. 2014

"This Fragile Life" by Kate Hewitt is a beautiful, emotionally draining read.

I came across this book a while ago on Amazon and thought it looked an excellent read. I've not read anything by this author before, I really loved her style of writing.

This book is predominantly about two women ~ one who couldn't have children, the other who fell pregnant then decided to help her friend.....

This story is so much more than this.....

It left me an emotional wreck. I smiled, I laughed, I cried....

A wonderful read which will stay in your mind for a long time.

This Fragile Life by Kate Hewitt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have just finished reading this gut wrenching emotional book. OMG I'm in pieces. This book is dedicated to all the babies who lost their fight for life too early. This affected the author too and I relate to it as well.
Its not all doom and gloom, just that towards the end it is so sad, leaving you with questions such as Would I do that?
Could I do that? Am I strong enough to do that?

Two women whose life is exposed.
One father, one Wannabe dad. One friend, one lonely neighbour all builds into one heck of a blast of a story that will stay with you through time.
Would I recommend it? Hell YES!
Be ready with tissues, it really is gut wrenching.

I really wish I could give this 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving read 2 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is 4.30 am and I have just finished reading This Fragile Life with silent tears running down my face. It is a moving but heartwarming story where you can relate to both Alex and Martha, even if you don't originally sympathise with Martha, as the story unfolds, it is much easier to understand why she has built a wall around herself. It leaves you with such a sense of loss for all the characters but also with hope for their futures. I can't recommend it enough, but have tissues handy.

Loved this book! I thought I knew where this story was going but there were twists and turns along the way. Such a sad story but I still felt uplifted at the end and felt I fully understood all the characters finally by the last few pages. Will be reading more books by this author! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, poignant and uplifting 28 Jun. 2015
By Molly
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This Fragile Life is an intense and highly emotional story about two friends, their relationships, their busy modern lives and their hopes and dreams. It is full of raw emotion and human longing for the things that we all believe we’re entitled to, yet sometimes cannot achieve.
Motherhood is a gift but not all women desire it and some are unable to have children, even when they want them desperately. Through her expert weaving of the stories of different generations of mothers in the novel, Kate Hewitt explores how mothers can get it right and enrich the lives of their children, but also how they can get it wrong and leave their children with issues that can last a lifetime.
One night can transform your life – for better or for worse – and Kate Hewitt doesn’t shy away from writing about the emotion and pain that some topics can stir. Instead, she writes about them respectfully, articulately and in a way that affects the reader deeply.
I have to be honest and admit that at 90% through the novel, I was tempted to put my Kindle in the freezer (Joey from Friends style) because I feared its conclusion, but I’m glad I didn’t because the ending of the story is beautiful, poignant and uplifting. Kate Hewitt shows that there can be so much hope from so much pain because of the human capacity to endure and keep moving forwards, even though we will always carry a part of our loved ones with us.
