As a huge fan of the iconic movie "Grease" which came out in 1978, I was both excited and fascinated when I heard that there was going to be a reunion CD for the leads JT and ONJ, the duo which holds the record for best-selling duet in chart history ("You're The One That I Want"). I waited with so much anticipation for the cd's release and was not at all disappointed when I listened to the songs - they actually get better and better with repeated listening.
Although all songs have JT and ONJ singing, they also have wonderful guest vocalists like Barbra Streisand, Cliff Richard, Tony Bennett and James Taylor. Barbra lends her exquisite vocals in "I'll Be Home For Christmas" while James Taylor sings with JT and ONJ in the melodic "Deck The Halls." The best songs of the album, however, belong to JT and ONJ with "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas" and especially the beautifully-arranged closing song "Auld Lang Syne / Christmas Is Here." JT and ONJ also do their own take on the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" which is the opening song of the album.
What makes this album memorable is the fact that we hear JT and ONJ singing together again after 34 years (has it been that long?) and interpreting classic Christmas songs like "White Christmas" and "The Christmas Song". In terms of the last song syndrome (LSS) which is proof that the cd has affected me in one way or another, the tunes which keep ringing in my head after listening to the album are the funky title track "This Christmas" and the upbeat John Farrar-penned "I Think You Might Like It" (he wrote JT and ONJ's best-selling duet for the film "Grease").
As a fan of Christmas music, I recommend "This Christmas" as a wonderful addition to your Christmas collection. "This Christmas" has also been lovingly recorded since proceeds will go to the foundations of JT and ONJ. A must-own for JT and ONJ fans and lovers of Christmas music!
