This album is hugely energized and bursting full of the Tegan and Sara distinctive style which I find hard to categorise - in itself a good thing. Two twenty-something twin sisters armed with guitars play with careful and impressive use of witty lyrics, full-force energy, catchy tunes and complimentary voices (and cute cute idiosyncratic ways of singing their lyrics in Canadian accents)... everything just draws you into the music of this album. A fantastic range of open and catchy tunes; each and every one has you singing along in no time at all. The highpoints for me are 'The First', 'My Number' and 'Freedom'. This is a great debut album that has me wanting to hear (and see) more of what is still, surprisingly, a fairly underground act. What's exciting is that I hear they are even better as a live act =)

A great follow-up to Under Feet Like Ours. The songs on here that also featured on their last output have been perfected and sound great. Tegan's vocals on The First are blinding and I would recommend this album to anyone who enjoys quirky, rocky pop.
