Understated, under promoted, largely under the radar.... I was fortunate enough to be pointed in the right direction by a token review in the back of a mag.... And maybe that is why I liked the album so much? I didn't really expect anything exceptional, nor nothing different from the norm... yet this album had me smiling in a way I hadn't smiled for such a while. It is "samey" - granted - but only in that it copies itself, it's many tracks taking something from the last... tinkling melodies, cold and defined, cutting a swathe through the FM basses that layer the portraits.... It's intelligent stuff and I can see why it missed these (UK) shores, but I am indebted to that "chance" review and my impulsion to "give it a whirl".... If you do decide to treat your ears, then the minimal, electronic classic which is "The Splendour" may well make you cry....

blissful 31 July 2008

Format: Audio CD
this is a really lovely, dark, lush, liquid, techno album, basically. A lot of it is clearly on a big detroit tip, but Pantha does some nice twists on the blueprint, and an intgiuingly expanded sound palette, with the ususal squelching and heavy bass, taut drums, ringing techno bells etc, swathed in delicate static, odd clicks and wirrs, gorgeous brass parping, and many many odd chiming noises. OK, that all sounds a bit mechanical, but its also chock full of melody too. Basically its easily one of the best albums of the year- have a listen late at night with some good headphone, prefereably on a train or bus at night.

I like electronic/ambient/new age type of musics and have lots of them. This one really stands out. it is well balanced. I can listen to it nonstop for a long period of time.
