Format:Audio CD
I wouldn't have said I was into big band or swing or even jazz, but thanks to a friend keen to 'educate' me I had this album played to me... And rushed onto Amazon the next day to get it! This is absolutely superb, though I wouldn't dare try to classify it or liken to it anything else. All I will say is that there's an energy here that belies a musical form which supposedly died out 60 years ago, and there are some real treats on this album... let me rephrase that, this album is full of treats. These guys play really tight while seeming to shoot loose at the same time, and it's a wonderful combination. Musically highly competent, a couple of virtuosi in there too I shouldn't wonder, and vocally the harmonics are spine-tinglingly sharp. I just love this album, and I love this band. I'm just off to get their other album before I explode with enthusiasm!

Format:Audio CD
I spent a long time trying to find something which I really liked and have tralled through countless jazz albums, old swing and big band compilations. Now though, I can stop looking. This band are great. This album is top. There are one or two tracks which may not appeal to everyone but a lot of it is just so full-on and in-your-face. I love it. I'm afraid I can't offer much insight into the technical quality of the music (being fairly ignorant) or even put it into a bracket. The band is around an eight piece, brass section, rhythm section, piano and vocals. The music they play is just lots of fun. I'd recommend it whole heartedly. If you want some idea of what they sound like and the opportunity to watch a great movie then go and rent the film Swingers (also very good).

I love this album (and their others) when I play it, I feel like I've put on a slinky dress, full make up, have a cocktail in one hand and a cigarette holder (no cigarette though!) in the other, even if I am in jeans and t-shirt!
