delightful 18 Aug 2007

one of the best albums this year. fab melodies and excellant lyrics. thirst for romance is sad but utterly beautifl... DON'T make the mistake i did and enthusiasticly play it to a friend who'd just lost her mother. every track has an underlying quality that pulls you in and makes you listen.

Exceeds expectation 21 July 2007
Format:Audio CD
This is definitely not in the same ball park as Editors or Snow Patrol. It's just so different from that, although just as epic. It's mature, folk-soul-rock. I was a bit apprehensive having read some reviews that compared it to the aforementioned but found upon listening that it owes far more to Glen Campbell, Richard Ashcroft and Tim Buckley than the current crop of "play it big and rake it in" bands cashing in on the heels of Colplay (another band I never really got). His voice is unique, really soulful and I only gave it 4 stars in the hope that they get better with age. Don't have the "life" of Arctic Monkeys or F.F. - true. I imagine they aren't really writing to get people up and dancing. It sounds how Embrace wish they sounded. It's the real deal, cool or not.

A joy! 27 Aug 2007
By The Boy
Format:Audio CD
I have to say that I was a little wary of this album when I first bought it. I had heard 'Mathematics' a few months earlier and it had collected up more than 100 plays on my iPod, no song in a long time had got me as excited. Then 'People Help The People' was released and that also blew me away. So when the album came out I was doubtful as to whether it could keep up with this high standard, how wrong was I. It really is a beautiful record. Full of chiming melodies and thoughful lyrics, every track has a wonderful hook and Simon Aldreds Morrisey esque voice lights it up. There are hints of Badly Drawn Boy, Elbow, Suede and even country greats like Willie Nelson. The aformentioned tracks are for me the standouts, but 'Dead Mans Suit' and '4am' are just as good.
I cant really say much more about this record. Its just brilliant. Amid all the dross thats around today its nice to see that some are still capable of making music this good.

Outstanding.
One of the best albums of the last ten years. It took a while to grow on me, and it's true that its style is a bit more "dinner party" than Editors, it's a bit more "Radio 2" than... Read more
