5.0 out of 5 stars On the other hand, 12 Jan 2009
By Number 6 (The Village) - See all my reviews

...if you have not fallen into the trap Pierre talks about below, the books themselves are very fine in design (although the cardboard sleeve they come in is a bit cheap), one for the library...I wish more books came out in "fine editions" for posterity, preferably after the pbk edition so you know you like the book and want to invest...

This is a modern classic of history.

1.0 out of 5 stars A total con from Penguin, 24 Nov 2008
Penguin Books released the 3rd and final volume in Hardback and without any warnings launch the trilogy set a couple of months thereafter: if you want all 3 in hardback, well you have to re-purchase volume 3 again, as the other 2 volumes are no more available in hardback.
It is bundled together to make more cash out of us not to provide us with the facility to access all volumes in hardback editions: not an elegant process and in this period of recession actually revolting. I'll buy the other volumes second hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars silly pierre!, 3 Feb 2009
By A. Laing - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
i am absolutely certain that dear old pierre who has already complained here would be rather miffed if the author and the publisher decided to deprive us all of individual releases and just offered all the titles in one hardback three volume set.
does he not realise that some of us either do not want a triple hardback set or simply cannot afford it?
but the the truth is dear old pierre just like the publisher and the author is in fact only looking out for his own self interests!
either way, whether the books are sold individually or together as a set, one thing we all have is CHOICE!
if pierre would rather have this lovely trilogy as i am certain he does, then i am sure he will work out the simple equation of sell current copies and buy triple box set.
