Ron Carter is outstanding on this wonderful outing with Herbie Hancock. The final track, "Maiden Voyage", tells you everything.
Note also the same sublime technique on Chet Baker"s "Once upon a
Summertime". Modern bass playing just doesn"t" get any better.
Note the influence on Brian Bomberg playing with Alan Broadbent.

A great session from 1997 with Ron Carter and Tony Williams, even if Herbie Hancock is not yet as mature and hence rewarding to listen to. Both Ron Carter, who produced it, and Tony Williams make this a no nonsense date with some exquisite touches. An essential CD for any jazz aficianado.
