OK, credit to Cox for completing the St Clare's series, but she's tried to update it at the same time. Was "Libby" a common name in the 1940s? Alison is supposed to (according to one of the later books)worship the head girl of the third form, not one of the girls in her class. I expected better.

i have to say that i agree with 'A reader' whose title is 'why'? i also noticed the type casting errors of this book, not only was the naming completely out of place, but Cox obviously could not be bothered, or couldn't care about references the enid blyton had truley made in the other stories to the third form... the 6th form she could have had free lance over as this was to happen in the future, and therefore could have no more obvious hints than what was written at the end of the true last book.

i also believe that both of her writings... for the third and sixth form... were rather unorigional to say the least, she seems to have not only gone out of character with the speech of the girls but seems to have meely copied the 'summer term at st clares' with minor changes for them. same spiteful catty person who has their downfall and is never seen again, shock horror.

i cannot say that i would ever give any children of mine (should i ever have any) either of these books, best that they use their own imagination and make up their own 'gap fills'.

if they couldn't improve upon what had been written previously, they should have left well enough alone.

i would advise sticking to the origional 6 stories, and if possible, their origional publications.

(p.s. excuse the punctuation and spelling... i am tired and disappointed after reading the 'gap fills'.)

The Third Form at St Clare's is the best in the series. I like the new characters (especially the fierce Fern, good-hearted Libby and Rachel the daughter of famous actors). If you liked Summer Term at St Clare's you'll enjoy this book. The plot about the girls writing and performing a play is realistic and hooks you in, although the ending could have been better.
