Product Description

Simon Dodds has had his wings clipped. Shot down over the luxurious holiday planet Mythos and separated from his wingmates, he is quick to discover that the once-popular sun-soaked paradise has been transformed into a nightmarish war zone, swarming with armies of seemingly unstoppable black-suited soldiers. The Pandoran war machine is on the move, preparing to advance The Mission and deal to the rest of the galaxy the same fate it did the Mitikas Empire.

Unaware of what fate may have befallen his friends, the young pilot attempts to make his way through the dangerous streets of the war-torn city of New Malaga, as he waits for the CSN to rush to the rescue.

But from out of the chaos emerges something far more terrible; and if Dodds can somehow survive the next 24 hours, he might finally see beyond the lies he has been fed and hear a side to the story that no one wants him to: what really happened to the Imperium, who the black-suited warriors are, what the ATAFs were built for...

... and what his purpose in all of it is. Whether he likes it or not.

There are three sides to every story.
But sometimes the truth is the hardest side to believe.

---

THE THIRD SIDE is the second book in the BATTLE FOR THE SOLAR SYSTEM trilogy, and the follow-up to the enormously popular HONOUR OF THE KNIGHTS.

Not too shabby! 30 Nov 2011
By M. Hill
Format:Kindle Edition
This is actually a great story. I read a lot of books - I never don't have a book on the go - mainly SciFi and Fantasy, and I can honestly say that I've read much worse by well-known authors.

The story is very good. I wanted to keep reading, and I really liked the characters. The plot is good, and fairly deep, and everyone in it has their own agenda. The bad guys are really bad, and I had a smile on my face as Enrique... well, best not spoil it for anyone.

There are one or two times when I could not understand someone's justification for doing something, or for not asking the obvious questions (plenty of mystery in this story), and at times the occasional page doesn't read particularly well - also there are a lot of typo's (such as "obvious" instead of "obviously", for instance, rather than spelling mistakes - although there are one or two of those as well). But for the most part it's a great read.

Also, "sometime" and "some time" are not exactly the same and don't always convey the same meaning!

However, nothing that would make me think of knocking a star off the rating :)

...but Stephen, you just gotta get a proofer/editor on the payroll! This may have been 5 stars for me with some editing.

All-in-all, it's a great story, and written fairly well with just a few minor annoyances. I think this is an author who will be writing some great stuff in the future with a bit more experience, and I'm very much looking forward to book 3.

Loved it! 14 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I first read Book 1 (The Honour of the Knights first edition) as a freebie on Amazon (woohoo!). I was a little dubious about it though as the book had some fairly critical ratings, but since it was free it didn't really matter. I am glad however that I took the time to read it. The book was an easy, light read, with some nice ideas and I really enjoyed it. After completing 'The Honour of the Knights' first edition I discovered that there was in fact a second edition of the book and I quickly bought this together with 'The Third Side'.

The second edition added more character to the book and tied up a few loose ends. Although if truth be told the diary snippets are a bit annoying - almost spoilers in retrospect. Overall the writing style was good, fast paced and interesting. I really enjoyed both editions, faults and all.

'The Third Side' continues the story of the White Knights. We now know the characters and what has transpired leading us up to this point thanks to the first book. Because of this the story is set up perfectly and gets straight into the action, set a few months after the first book ended. There is some fairly epic visual action going on which I love, it really has my imagination going. The action continues to be fast paced and exciting and at the same time well described without going into too much detail (some authors seem to enjoy detailing every grain of sand and its precise location in the universe).

As it stands For £1.99 this book is a complete steal, as is the first in the series. I am waiting in high anticipation of the final book in the series. Although, these books are fairly short by some standards there is a lot in them and the universe that Stephen Sweeney has created would make an excellent setting for future books and short stories alike.

In brief; Loved it, highly recommended, I almost feel guilty for paying £1.99! BUY IT!

This book starts with a warning that you need to have read Honour of the Knights first and its right, The Third Side rolls on from part 1 of the Battle for the Solar System series, it maintains the pace of the first book further developing the characters adding faults and fallibility that makes them all the more human and lovable.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for part three to come out, the only down side is the consistent typos - Mr Sweeney please please get yourself a decent proof reader!
