Product Description

Product Description

Temple Grandin, Ph.D., is a gifted animal scientist who has designed one third of all the livestock-handling facilities in the United States. She also lectures widely on autism because she is autistic, a woman who thinks, feels, and experiences the world in ways that are incomprehensible to the rest of us. In this unprecedented book, Grandin writes from the dual perspectives of a scientist and an autistic person. She tells us how she managed to breach the boundaries of autism to function in the outside world. What emerges is the document of an extraordinary human being, one who gracefully bridges the gulf between her condition and our own while shedding light on our common identity.

"There are innumerable astounding facets to this remarkable book...Displaying uncanny powers of observation...[Temple Grandin] charts the differences between her life and the lives of those who think in words."--Philadelphia Inquirer

A really good insight into autism. This book captures you from the beginning and you feel that you can see into the world of the writer.
She helps 'normal' peolpe to understand some of the difficulties that autistic people have in communicating and understanding the world around them.
The writer proves how being autistic need not be a barrier in achieving in life.
An interesting account for all readers.

This is the FIRST book that I have read that has given me real insight into the mind of my autistic son. I laughed, I cried, and many times I said, "Now I get it!" Temple Grandin has given parents a true gift with the writing of this book.

The book is a fascinating story of her life as a High Functioning Autistic. It is so easy to dismiss people on the Autistic Spectrum but when you have a one time peak inside her head and realise this is an exceptionally clever woman with impressive qualifications in Animal Husbandry to her name, you realise that there is far far more to the lady than meets the eye. I was very impressed with the book - not only is it told with simplicity, dignity and humour, it somehow changes your understanding of the disorder. Well worth the read.
