5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! 5 Mar 2008
By bebe
This was a gift (that I had asked for!)and I love it. I was a bit unsure of the size at first (I'd asked for the standard but been bought the medium) but this size book chair holds paperbacks and (not too thick) hardbacks perfectly. Now and again it is necessary to tighten the screws but otherwise very durable. It has three positions depending on how you like to angle your books. A really simple design that works great. Now you can read at the dinner table and people won't think you're unsociable because the book chair will be such a talking point! lol.

Perfect gift for anyone who reads but especially those who can't bear to stop reading to eat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift - for yourself and others. 8 Sep 2009
I love reading in bed but don't enjoy holding the book open, specially the thick ones. I enjoy it even less in the winter months when my fingers are rigid with cold. I understand that this is not the biggest problem in the world and I assure you it's not the experience I relate when talking to someone recently returned from a war zone. However, it is relevant to a review of this bookchair which has elegantly resolved all my bedtime reading problems. So much so, that I bought another one as a secret santa present for a friend who wears gloves in bed!

Books stay propped open until you have to turn the page(hmm..maybe I should get a page turner?)and the stand doesn't topple on lumpy bed surfaces. It will fall over if bedclothes are pulled around because it's quite light but I think the design strikes the right balance between practicality and looks.

Although I only use it for bedtime reading, it can also be a cookbook holder or a typing aid or a help on any other occasion when you need hands free reading. I find the bookchair to be useful, well priced and good looking.

4.0 out of 5 stars How have I managed without this! 20 May 2012

This item has got me through my last stretch of university coursework! How I managed to type quotes before from books I don't know, has made life so much easier. It's also now proving to be perfect to hold my iPad over night or when I'm playing music or reading from it! Definitely recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy thumbs at last! 8 Sep 2011
By Lady Fancifull TOP 500 REVIEWER

Being double-jointed on both thumbs, and a voracious reader, sometimes my thumbs protest at being permanently forced backwards whilst reading, especially with some paperbacks which are quite springy and rigid. So the discovery of this jolly little deckchair for books has been very welcome. I particularly like to read in bed, and can now balance this on my chest - although another reviewer is right, in that it needs one higher position on the chair, to bring the book more nearly to vertical (hence loss of 1 star) Its pretty perfect for reading whilst eating or reading a text book whilst writing or typing an article or study notes on it - keeping your neck in a much better position than with a book flat on the table.

This size, the medium, holds a pretty standard paperback - and can also be used to hold your Kindle, or indeed a tablet or netbook. Curiously, the standard is larger than the medium, and would be the one for chunky paperbacks or more standard sized hardbacks Bookchair Standard Stripes

3.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to love it 25 Aug 2011
By C. Rucroft VINE VOICE
I like to read in bed, rolled over onto my side and it is very difficult to hold a book. Was this bookchair going to provide the perfect solution?

Almost. It is very sturdy and holds a book really well on the surface of the bed. This medium version is best suited to paperbacks and slimmer hardbacks (you need the larger one if you mainly read hardbacks).

I do have a few issues. Firstly, the 'pegs' that hold the book open can hide some of the words on the page, which is quite irritating. Also, you have to really bend the book back for it to stay 'properly' open. As you get closer to the end of a book, it does seem more difficult for it to stay open. For me, the adjustable heights aren't quite as good as I would like - there needs to be one to make the chair higher as it's not high enough even on the top setting.

I do like it and it does have it's uses. It's just not quite as brilliant as I expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking and really practical 3 Oct 2009
By Lex

I saw one of these delicious looking 'book chairs' at a friends' house and knew immediately that I had to get one. I'm often quoting from books and a lengthy quote can be almost impossible to type without constantly losing your place. But resting the book on the chair which holds the pages down for you makes things much easier(and the 'pegs' are adjustable to allow for slightly larger books). In fact, I bought the larger one as well. If you're drawing quotes/information from reference books you will need the bigger one. Having blogged for about a year now (and relying on accurate quotes) I have found these chairs absolutely invaluable. I can't imagine blogging without them. Lex L

5.0 out of 5 stars This is great! 30 Jun 2008
Oooh, just what I always wanted/needed. Sitting up at the table eating lunch alone and not having to balance heavy objects onto my book to stop it closing, great stuff. Or, having a bath and placing it on the toilet seat (toilet seat down, of course) and being able to have my hands free to drink tea and dunk biscuits in the bath and lie in luxury for ages.

I do find however that the page holders could be a little longer, occasionally a page frees itself, but not often.

This size is fine for normal (20 x 12cm approx)and large paperbacks, and hardbacks.
