Book Description

18 Aug 1997

Lucid and penetrating observations on the world around us and our place in it from a spiritual teacher of the Hindu tradition.

‘The material contained in this volume was originally presented in the form of talks to students, teachers and parents in India, but its keen penetration and lucid simplicity will be deeply meaningful to thoughtful people everywhere, of all ages, and in every walk of life. Krishnamurti examines with characteristic objectivity and insight the expressions of what we are pleased to call our culture, our education, religion, politics and tradition; and he throws much light on such basic emotions as ambition, greed and envy, the desire for security and the lust for power – all of which he shows to be deteriorating factors in human society.’
From the Editor’s Note

‘Krishnamurti’s observations and explorations of modern man’s estate are penetrating and profound, yet given with a disarming simplicity and directness. To listen to him or to read his thoughts is to face oneself and the world with an astonishing morning freshness.’
Anne Marrow Lindbergh

5.0 out of 5 stars blown away by the words 19 May 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the first book of Krishnamurti I have ever read and I must say it's increadibly refreshing and inspiering...
After reading this thin little book I decided to write my final dissertation on utopian concept of new education system based on Krishnamurti teachings and Rudolf Steiner approach.
It is totally vital to read this book ! Helps you to clear your head and look at life from a different perspective simply enjoying it more as it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars An inescapably simple template for life. 11 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I have purchased this book for a number of people. Every one of them came back and told me that they didn't feel they would ever look at the world the same way again. This book of immense thought is written in manageable chapters. The first few chapters will lay the foundation for later chapters. You will not come out the other side unimpressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously think about your life 16 April 2009
Format:Paperback
Krishnamurthy does not offer mumbo-jumbo words.

I am fortunate to find this book which has saved my time and energy. If you are serious about your life, then you will discover the life that he is talking about. Beware that he is not going to give you what you want - instead he takes you to what is true in its own accord. By Vijay Pabbathi. 5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to Krishnamurti 29 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have a few books by Krishnamurti and this is the easiest one to read. It is K answering questions put to him by children but it is for all to listen to his answers. For anyone who wants to have a look at themselves this is the book to start with. Krishnamurti takes a while to get your head around but as time goes by it makes more sense and things become easier to understand. I know a guy who buys 12 of these every year just to give out to people who inquire into Krishnamurti. Hope you enjoy this great book

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, but messages okay 9 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
I was disappointed with the content of the book which seemed to be a narrative between Krishnamurti and a bunch of school children, and hence what he was saying was like someone telling a child. Having said this, 'what he was saying' was excellent and very good, and would be a good book for someone to read who doesn't know a great deal about spirituality. I struggled to finish it because I have been exposed to much of the philosophies before.
