Review

"The fourth of Wilkinson's crime novels to feature the psychologically wounded but tenacious Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel confirms the heroine as one of the new stars of the northern British police procedural. DCI Banks, not to mention Scott and Bailey, had best look out. Daniel's stories also have more than a touch of the unforgettably downbeat, ever resilient Jack Frost. Wilkinson's first Daniel story, Locked In, was self-published and rapidly became a conventional bestseller. He has blossomed since. . .Wilkinson's story spreads like a pool of blood, showing his growing confidence, and as it does so, so his talent becomes ever more obvious."
--Daily Mail

Book Description

Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel is first on the scene as a stolen car crashes on a misty, wet Manchester morning. The driver is dead, but the biggest shock awaits her when she discovers the body of a child wrapped in plastic in the boot of the car. As Jessica struggles to discover the identity of the driver, a thin trail leads her first to a set of clothes buried in the woods and then to a list of children’s names abandoned in an allotment shed. With the winter chill setting in and parents looking for answers, Jessica must find out who has been watching local children, and how this connects to a case that has been unsolved for 14 years.

It's a atand alone great crime story, but if you havent read any of Kerry Wilkinson's 'DS Jessica Daniel' series, i would recommend that you read them in order, 'locked In', 'Vigilante' and ' The Woman in Black' They are all fantastic stories, involving DS Jessica Daniel, as she picks her way through realistic serious crime's, in her own particular way, a down to earth detective, with all the baggage that comes with the job.
I was fortunate to win an advance copy in a competition, so from a privledged point of view, i found , Jessica's latest adventure 'Think of the Children' a real page turner, as she delves further and deeper into each of the investigations, as it twists and turns, often making the reader believe one point of view, whilst masking the real hidden truth.
Jessica's character, is no picture book, cleaner than clean type police officer, she says what she wants to say, rather than what her superiors want to hear.
Kerry tackles the crimes of child murder and missing children, in a very accurate and yet human way, a subject that raises the hairs on the necks of almost everyone, and scares the life out of everybody that has children.
A cracking story.
I read the book in just one session, and to be honest, should have stretched it out a 'wee' bit, any reader that likes good stories will know the feeling, i just could'nt put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic read and author 21 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback
this is the 4th book to the quality jessica daniel series.
each in their own right brilliant, the fact i got the first book for around 30p on my kindle and read it on the off chance it might be good lead me to this fantastic author (thank you very much amazon for your kindle skills!)

the book is a great story from start to finish, follows the back drop of the characters through each book effortlessly and it feels like you were never away. great plot and the way kerry makes jessica so northern english for me being northern to really funny and realistic making this book very easy to relate and feel warm too.

simple example in the book where she mentions when you become an adult you change sauces for your butty, tomato and brown sauce - so true and a classic part of the book that had me laughing for ages.

all in all i suggest everyone read this book its amazing as the rest! well worth 5 stars.

if any other reason buy this book because this author is a true gent, i won this book in a competition on facebook and although im currently serving in afghanistan he still sent it with a personal message. kerry = legend, thank you so much, i cant wait for this to become a larger series.

brilliant book/author

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to the Jessica Daniel books 21 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback
Well I won an advanced copy so read the book several weeks ago.

It might not be the best book in the series, for me that was "Locked In" (book 1), but certainly a very good read and for those who know Manchester you are lead through the area very well. On first read I felt the premise of the story a little far fetched, but on reflection I have seen news items even more unusual, so perhaps I was wrong.

The plot unfolds nicely, with some blind allies and twists for Jessica to go through. You also get to meet Jessica much more than the other books which was a delight. It is a little difficult for me to judge for sure, but I think this book will stand on its own, so no need to read the previous three in the series. Don't miss out and start from book 1 - "Locked In".

I stumbled upon Kerry Wilkinson books by accident, bored in a hotel and forgot my eBook, but had Kindle on my phone and voila I am hooked and eagerly waiting the next instalment.
