Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

While many of the new breed of folk musicians are constantly exploring new directions, there are just as many--and an equally large audience--whose aim is to maintain the status quo and preserve the tradition in its purest form. Listening to Waterford seven-piece Danú's second album "blind", it could easily have come from any point after the Chieftains' debut album in the late 1960s, such is its timelessness. The band's youth brings a boundless energy to the proceedings but the material and approach to it are firmly passed down from their musical forefathers. Tom Doorley's flute playing is hugely indebted to Matt Molloy's and is just as effective. The album covers a range of boisterous jigs and reels, all steeped in Irish musical history, plus a smattering of slightly less absorbing songs. Danú were voted the best live act of 2000 in one poll and are by far at their best when heading off at full steam, tempered by an undoubted musical virtuosity. For those who like their Irish folk straight down the middle, Think Before You Think may be indispensable. --Phil Udell

There is not a bad track on this album. Danú is one of the best traditional Irish groups I've heard -- and I've been listening over 30 years. They're up there with Dé Dannan, Dervish and Altan. The singer (Ciarán O Gealbháin) has an excellent voice that is quite distinctive.

Ciarán only remained for one more album before departing to continue his education. His replacement, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, is just as good, merely different. Nevertheless, this remains one of the very best of all their albums so far, which comprise:

1997 Danú
2000 Think Before You Think
2001 All things Considered
2003 The Road Less Traveled
2004 One Night Stand (DVD)
2004 Up in the Air
2005 When All is Said and Done
2010 Seanchas

I've bought all of 'em, and couldn't be happier!

The total time of this album is 53'55".

This young Irish band have more than taken up where Planxty, The Bothy band and Altan have left of. I saw them by accident in a town called Clifden in Connermara and was simply blown away with their sound. In fact their live sound is even better than this CD. They are all more than accomplished on their instruments. The voice of their singer Ciaran was superb. My favourite track is the second, a great song called "Green Brooms" followed by a tune called "The Humours of Kill Clougher" This track was even better live. You cannot really single out any one individual band member. From the backing of Bouzouki and Guitar to the Flute, Melodeon and Fiddle of the tunes they really are a "Band". My one small complaint is that I would have liked to hear more of the bodhran and backing on some of the tracks. This CD one is their second, their first is called "Danu" No TM002.

It is soon obvious why this Irish septet have earned themselves their fearsome reputation. Top quality trad music & vocals that will delight all folk lovers, & should please all music collectors. A must for Danú fans & a recommended addition to anyone's library.
