fantastic read 24 Sep 2008
By Jess Hearts Books VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This book made me cry on the very first page.Something a book has never made me do before, the third or fourth maybe, but never the first. This book is about a woman who is dieing from cancer and has four very different daughters who she is leaving behind.Lisa in a loving relationship but terrified of commitment.Unhappily married Jennifer.Amanda the traveler who's never in one place to long is this because she likes adventure or because she's running away? And teenager Hannah who's mother is leaving her just when she needs her the most.Barbara decides to keep a journal and write letters to her daughters voicing her hopes, fears, dreams and secrets for the four girls.Giving them advice on how to love, how to live and how to let her go.I was very impressed with this and will be looking out for more by Elizabeth Noble in the future, enjoy.

This book didn't really do it for me; I had expected to like it, based on the fantastic reviews below, but I found it distinctly average. I am not sure if it was the combination of the somewhat unlikeable characters, or the fact that the book seemed to be at times a corny discussion about love. Or maybe a combination of the two. I have to admit that the author succeeds in depicting emotion and rivalry between four sisters, but as a whole I found the book was just 'ok' and ultimately rather bland.

Tissues needed! 23 Oct 2008
Format:Paperback
I took this book into hospital when I was having an OP. I read it non stop for 6 hours and all the nurses were coming in to make sure I was ok as I kept crying, I said its fine I am not in pain, its this book. OMG what an amazing book, it really moved me,especially as I lost my own dear mum to cancer (brain tumour)and mum left me letters. I could really identify with the characters. It is the best book I have ever read. The nurses at the nuffield hospital at wexham now have it, as they couldn't wait to read it after my glowing review! BUY THIS BOOK!

Over-long and under-edited
I found this book's themes interesting and at times gripping, but have to admit to being put off completely by some lazy continuity errors which jumped out at me. Read more
