Product Description

'My beautiful girls. If you've read this, you'll know it contains some - not all, but some - of the things I want my daughters to know. And the greatest of these is love ...' How would you say goodbye to those you love most in the world? Barbara must say a final farewell to her four daughters. But how can she find the words? And how can she leave them when they each have so much growing up to do? There's commitment-phobic Lisa. Brittle, unhappily married Jennifer. Free-spirited traveller Amanda. And teenage Hannah, stumbling her way towards adulthood. Barbara's answer is to write each daughter a letter, finally expressing the hopes, fears, dreams and secrets she couldn't always voice. These words will touch the girls in different - sometimes shocking - ways, unlocking emotions and passions to set them on their own journey of discovery through life.

4.0 out of 5 stars fantastic read, 24 Sep 2008
By Miss Jessica (West Midlands,England) - See all my reviews
This book made me cry on the very first page.Something a book has never made me do before, the third or fourth maybe, but never the first. This book is about a woman who is dieing from cancer and has four very different daughters who she is leaving behind.Lisa in a loving relationship but terrified of commitment.Unhappily married Jennifer.Amanda the traveler who's never in one place to long is this because she likes adventure or because she's running away? And teenager Hannah who's mother is leaving her just when she needs her the most.Barbara decides to keep a journal and write letters to her daughters voicing her hopes, fears, dreams and secrets for the four girls.Giving them advice on how to love, how to live and how to let her go.I was very impressed with this and will be looking out for more by Elizabeth Noble in the future, enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit shallow, 5 Feb 2009
By B. K. Pymm - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is moderately easy to read and follows the events in the lives of four daughters bereaved of their mum. It also looks at their responses to letters she wrote each of them before she died and which were presented to them after her death. I was a little disappointed at the lack of depth in examining their thoughts and feelings as there was potential to explore these in much more detail and this might have been helpful to others who are bereaved.

2.0 out of 5 stars Slightly let down...., 5 Jan 2009
By Andrea Smith (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This book didn't really do it for me; I had expected to like it, based on the fantastic reviews below, but I found it distinctly average. I am not sure if it was the combination of the somewhat unlikeable characters, or the fact that the book seemed to be at times a corny discussion about love. Or maybe a combination of the two. I have to admit that the author succeeds in depicting emotion and rivalry between four sisters, but as a whole I found the book was just 'ok' and ultimately rather bland.
