5.0 out of 5 stars this is a great movie 19 July 2010
This is one of those movies where its just good and great through out , it does not throw any punchs or spins but i think its just great , theres nothing wrong with it and its a good movie to make you feel good about life.

The characters are well done and they are beliveable , the movie is not predictable , I disagree with some other reveiws , there are no spins on the story , but there dont need to be.The story is simple but the characters are deep, the story has alot of soul to it.Its a movie about british culture , life just before your 30s , and of course friendship. Its humour is subtle but moving and it makes you feel good watching it.

I sat there feeling happy because i sat up to watch it, and im very glad i did.Its just a good movie , that I cant complain about.Thats not something I say much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much more than football 22 Jun 2006
This is much more than a film about football - it examines relationships between friends, men and women, and fathers and sons, and how they can become estranged and reconciled. The football is almost incidental. Some excellent performances from George Irving, Shaun Parkes and Danny Nussbaum. George Irving, in particular, shows that he is at home on the big screen as he is on television. I hope to see more of all three.

Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This follows the trials and tribulations of a small group of 'footie-mad' males who meet once a week for yet another beating on the pitch. This is the foundation used for this British comedy/drama, very much in the spirit of "Up 'n' Under". But this is more than just a tale of an amateur football team and the hard times they encounter. It looks at relationships between friends, family members and lovers of all genders; men/men, women/men and women/women. The football is almost not that relevant here, but is the common link between the social groups and friendships considered here and is the cement that holds them all together. There are some very good performances from George Irving, Shaun Parkes and Danny Nussbaum and Billy Piper shows she can act too. A brief flash of a young lady's breasts and a very seductive lesbian kiss (as prelude to a possible threesome) make this a little steamy for under 15s or those of a more prudish nature. However, these scenes do not take over the story line or distract the viewer from the overall goal of the drama. It is both entertaining and good value for money - so for that reason I can recommend this to other British Social Drama/Comedy collectors.

2.0 out of 5 stars Moderately funny 24 Sep 2006
By UKryan
This movie raises a few laughs and has a basic predictable plot. Nothing spectacular happens :-( no major twists or turns :( could be shorter without losing anything...

Be warned, although only a 15 cert pretty unknown actress Stacy Hart goes topless and Billie Piper has a lesbian kiss!

3.0 out of 5 stars fun! 13 Oct 2009

A fun, very light comedy about truly figuring out what's important after a certain age and what it means to "grow up."
