When Pete Brown was sacked from his own band "Battred Ornaments", nobody expected such a strong debut from his new combo "Piblokto!" Gone is the long improvisations that was a main feature in Battred Ornaments. Instead, we get nine beautifully crafted tunes. The songs are still quiet quirky and the performance from the band is tight and punchy. Pete wrote two tunes together with Chris Spedding durin the Battred Ornament days and if you compare them with Battred Ornaments versions on "Mantle-piece" you hear the diffrence direct. The atmosphere on "the Art School Dance" is more relaxed and together. This new remastred edition sounds exellent. Strangely enough they have omitted the bonus tracks from the previous release by Repertoire. You have to grab the compilation on Harvest as well, since the singles made by Piblokto! are essential. The follow up is not as strong as this one and some of the tunes are far too long. This does not mean that it is a poor album, it's just that this album is hard to surpass. It's a masterpiece!!
